Default My IMAX, Watchmen experience.

I read the graphic novel three times, I watched each trailer countless times, and was excited beyond belief.

So me, and the 6 other people I went with got to the IMAX Theater early, about 7:00pm and our tickets were for 10:25pm. My sister and I walk into get our tickets and get in line. We get to the box office and what news do we get? The IMAX projectors are down. Motherf*&^$r! I was cussing up a storm. The usher told me and my sister that the compressors in the projectors were broken and that the 7:00pm show was canceled and things weren't looking good for the 10:25pm show. Pissed off, me and my sister walk out and inform the rest of the gang. What followed was a 5 minute long group-hissy fit. But, finally we calmed down. We decided to check back at 9:00pm.

9:00pm rolls by and my sister alone walks in to check, about a minute later she comes bursting out screaming, "hurry the f**k up! theres a line forming!" And like a race horse we bolt into the theater to get in line. There are a few people, not too bad, but a security guard tells us that isn't the end of the line. We turn the corner and there's another line forming. But still, nothing too bad. Now comes the fun part.

We get in to the room about 9:30pm. We get decent seats, and bit to the right for my taste. The ushers told everyone that their running about 20 minutes late, and that the movie would start at 10:40pm. Okay, I can deal with that. 10:40pm rolls by, and nothing. The ushers and managers come and start doing Watchmen trivia questions for Watchmen prizes. The crowd get pissed and starts yelling, "press play!" The manager gets a mic and tells us that the movie is going to start at 11:08pm. People then begin to leave and demanding their money back. Okay, 11:08pm rolls by, and guess what? Nothing. Managers come out to do more trivia questions. And more people begin to leave. I'm thinking there's going to be a riot, there will be blood! 11:20pm comes around and I notice the manager pacing around in a nervous fashion. "Damn, it's going to get canceled..." He comes out a few minutes later and thanks us on how patient and understanding we have been (Here it comes, he's going to kick us out of here...) and that the movie is going to begin in a minute. And well, a minute later it finally began.

We walk out around 2:30am, too tired and hungry to complain , and head to Denny's. What a night, right?

I should smack you in the face with a bag full of rusty hammers for leaving that story how you ended it. Christ, was it worth the wait?!

Just kidding about the hammers being rusty.

+1. Exactly what I was thinking. There needs to be one condensed Official Watchmen thread. The Watchmen threads are gonna give the Poll threads a run for their money this weekend! .

That was a crazy story, I would have been pissed.

Just tossing this out there - - SANTIKOS IMAX AT THE PALLADIUM IN SAN ANTONIO IS AN EMBARASSMENT TO IMAX! It's fine for actual IMAX features, but SpiderMan3? 300? Harry Potter 5? The Dark Knight? Aff four shared the same problems...

1) The center channels are set to low and you find yourself leaning forward in your seat trying to hear the dialog.

2) The environmental controls can't handle the body heat generated by a sold out show, so if you see something opening weeked, you walk out drenched in sweat because the room gets so hot.

If I can't hear the dialog, and the room is so damned hot people are fanning themselves halfway into the movie, you've got some 'splainin' to do, Santikos.

Going to see Watchmen tonight. No way, no how am I going to see it at the San Antonio Santikos Imax. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, I should be lobotomized. Fool me four times? Sterilized.

Yep, yep. The closest to the comic without making it into a series.

i don't know y he told u the IMAX projector was down. these current movies DO NOT use IMAX projectors. NOT even TDK uses a IMAX projector they use a regular 35mm projector to show the movies. All they do is use the IMAX screen & sound. one of the problems IMAX faces is when the "CHILLERS" stop working and thats for the water to cool the lamp. but like i said the IMAX projector is not used. there's a big difference with the film.

Something about a compressor. That's what they told us.

They do use the IMAX projector

You're seeing a 70mm blowup that's been upconverted. If it's advertised as being in IMAX and not "giant screen", it's using the projector

what exactly does that mean, and does that mean this isn't a true imax film then?

You must've seen those movies at the wrong time and day in order for you to complain about it. I've been to the Palladium IMAX about 2 or 3 times; I never had an issue with the temperature. But you're right about the delays; especially watching a film on the first day it releases. The only time I got delayed was when they were waiting til everyone got seated, that was when I got furious. If people arrive late to their showing, too bad, you snooze you lose.
