Default Onkyo problem...

Hey! Has anyone ever had a problem when switching inputs on their Onkyo receiver? Whenever I switch from CBL/SAT to AUX (could be any other inputs, just giving an example) it sometimes takes up to 3 minutes for the picture and sound to actually show up. So I am sitting there with a black screen that says "Video 6" as if the receiver were off. I have already tried reseating all the cables but it still does this intermittently. Am I missing something here with my setup or is it time to bring it in to get it looked at?

What is the temp of the box? I know Sirius389 was having issues with hers until she got a fan. Maybe they are related issues to heat and ventilation.

never heard of anyone with that issue. What inputs are you using (HDMI, component etc). If HDMI, I might think it's a handshake issue.

It's either this or auto-protect circuitry. Does the Onkyo turn completely off or just sit there?

As far as the temp, it happens when the box is cold or hot. I am using HDMI mostly but the Wii is hooked up via component (shared input with an HDMI) and has done it. The Onkyo stays on but just takes a long time to actually finish switching inputs.

It's the HT-R667 which is part of the HT-S6100. From what I understand it's identical to the 606 but part of a HTIB. I have my cable, 360, PS3 and Blu-ray player hooked up to the HDMI's and the Wii via component.

Sorry this is so old... Did you figure it out? If not...is it a delay from the harmony one, whats the delay set at if any , or does it do it with the onkyo remote also? What brand/model SA player do you have, or are you saying your PS3 is your BD player? What HDMI cables are you using?

Yeah, I forgot about this too, sorry OP.

Any reports?

I was thinking if it's not an HDMI handshake, since you are using alot of sony stuff, do you have like bravia link setup or turned on?

Also, do you have a multimeter? If so, can you check for stray voltages on the cables/cases of the equipment? Possibly a faulty ground could cause something like this.

And something obvious just hit me and not sure if you tried it or checked... Is your cable box on all the time? By this I mean the outputs. I am wondering if the onkyo is seeing signal on the cable box input when trying to switch causing all sorts of problems

I use the BDPs550 for watching the movies and I just game on the PS3. The display on the receiver displays the correct input it should be on so the Harmony is doing its job well I believe. I am using 1.3 HDMI cables.

I have it so the cable box turns off when I switch inputs. The cable input seems to be the only one that does not give me problems. Or maybe I have just been lucky with it. But the other 3 inputs have definitely done it. I have contacted Onkyo via their support page and they replied with:

"Thank You for contacting Onkyo USA Product Support.

What I would like for you to do is when there is no picture is to hold down the display button to see what shows up on the display screen. Because it should be showing you a resolution of the source in coming and then the out going resolution to the TV.
Thank you,
Jen"

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell that is supposed to help me fix the problem!!! In case you're wondering though, it displays "Unknown" when I press it. I replied and told them that and I'm still waiting on a reply. Hopefully I'll be able to call them this weekend if I don't resolve it by then.

what happens when you put the cable box into another input? Does the problem change? What happens if you completely unplug the cablebox HDMI?

Reason I ask is eventhough you turn the cable box off, I am wondering if it's still sending a signal and confusing the receiver. This happens with optical connections alot and confuses toslink auto switches and I wonder if the same is happening with HDMI.

I tried that and the problem remains. I tried calling Onkyo but got disconnected 3 times and then tried the call back option...and they never called back. I'm guessing that there is a circuitry problem that needs to be fixed on this thing so now I am in the process of trying to get my Circuit City protection plan going. I called them and because of the stores closing, they told me I need to wait up to 10 business days to hear back from them while they try to find a solution/repair center for me. Frustration's not even the word.

Thanks for letting us know At this point, yeah, I would say you will have to send it in, I can't think of anything you haven't tried.

I'm working on getting that done. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that though it's frequent, it's also intermittent. It happens a lot more than it doesn't but Murphy's law is going to kick in and they may send it back saying it worked for them. We'll see though.
