**** off Paramount. I'm happy that they're coming out on 1080p and don't begrudge that upgrade for anyone but why no simultaneous 4K disc release? We're not talking about some cautious indie that doesn't want to go 4K here but one of 4K disc's bigger supporters. Well, they were...

I rewatched the trilogy recently and the first film still holds up as one of the best 80's comedy/action flicks.

I really like the 2nd one as well. 3 on the other hand....I have a little love for it since it was the first BHC I saw but it's missing that energy the first two had. Also no John Ashton and Ronny Cox hurt the film as well. I like the idea of action in a disney type theme park though.

Well you can imagine the crushing disappointment it was to see that on the big screen when it first came out. I'd seen and loved the first two many times so the new entry was hugely anticipated and my heart sank as I watched the film and realized how incredible lame it was. BHC3 is the kind of movie that the Eddie Murphy of the 80s would have made fun of for being so stupid.

It's also the kind of movie that helped kill Murphy's career (or at least put it in deep freeze)

Well, the blu-rays needed upgrades bad. So this should be great news for the blu-ray format (presuming they don't screw up the 1080p version in the HDR/SDR processing).

A shame no simultaneous UHD release though. Isn't this kind of odd? Paramount had seemingly given up on blu ray, but was at least minimally active with UHD. Maybe they are just trying to milk some standard blu-ray sales on a possible good seller, and then will drop an UHD set later? One can hope.

Because of that uncertainty I see this more as a "bargain bin" blu-ray purchase than something I'd pay $50 or even $30 for. Whereas I'd pay up a bit for an UHD.

Thinking they'll do the Blu-ray trilogy now, and a 4K of only BHC later on.

I was thinking this as well. I'm glad they're releasing a set of all 3 films and that all three have been remastered and not just the first film. Still a bit disheartening that there won't be physical 4K editions this time. I wonder if Paramount is reissuing this to tie into Eddie Murphy's current and/or upcoming work or if it's part of their renewed interest in physical media.

Man, I wish they'd just remove that first bit about HDR and UHD when it's just a digital release. I don't really understand going through the trouble and cost to do HDR when you're not even going to put it out on UHD physically. Sure, it's ultimately less expensive but is there really a big enough market of people buying UHD digital files that wouldn't otherwise buy the discs?

There’s enough of a market that Warner relegated most of the Conjuring universe films to UHD digital only. Heck, the 2019 film: The Sun is Also A Star only has a physical DVD release, you have to buy it digitally for HD.

Paramount is using digital sales to gauge interest in physical releases. It’s A Wonderful Life sold well enough to justify a physical release. Its also not less expensive as it costs the same to create the 4K master and Dolby Vision/HDR layers. These 4K masters can then be downconverted for better looking Blu-rays and DVDs.

Murphy has been confirming via press junkets that as soon as he is done shooting Coming 2 America he moves in Beverly Hills Cop IV. So considering the 4K-UHD copies exist then perhaps once BHCIV hits disc on its own the entire series gets a UHD box set.....

I have a feeling Paramount is going to copy with this what they did for its a wonderful life 4-k. Last year they released its a wonderful life 4-k only digitally. Then this year they released the 4-k disc.

Hopefully. And I think with next gen consoles confirmed for the holidays of 2020. That possibly the industry at large is holding back till 100gb replication is increased, plus install base boost.
