Hi - New to this forum and Blue Ray in general so apologies if I'm asking something which may already have been answered.
I'm thinking on buying a PS3, I have a HD TV - just wondering how I connect the PS3 to the TV to play the discs in HD? Is a cable provided? Thanks in advance. Irelandian007 |

Welcome to the forum.
The PS3 has only one cable that comes supplied with it and that is a composite cable (yellow/red/white rca). If you want an s-video, component, or HDMI cable you would have to buy them seperately. However the old PS2 cables for component and s-video work on the PS3 as well. So just about every cable connection is supported, including DVI which you would have to buy an HDMI to DVI cable. Then if you don't use HDMI for the audio it also has an optical output. Last edited by Zaphod; 08-20-2007 at 07:40 AM. |

Depending on what connectors your HDTV has (component, DVI, or HDMI) you'll need the appropriate cables to link your PS3. For component, you'll need component cables, plus an optical SPDIF/TOSLink audio cable to your audio gear. For DVI, you'll need an HDMI to DVI converter cable, and a separate optical SPDIF/TOSLink cable for audio. For HDMI, you need an HDMI cable (which handles both video and audio). |

Thanks for this.
I presume I should be going for a HDMI cable to experience the full capability of Blue Ray on my HD TV? What HDMI cable should I buy? - was just looking there and there seems to be a few different types. Sorry about this - all new to me. Irelandian007 |

Thanks for this IceImage - My HD TV has HDMI and component connectors?
What the differencre between DVI/HDMI/Component and what's the best connection for me given what I have available? My HD TV is only 20" and the sound quality is not great - any sussgestions on how I can boost this? Sorry for all the silly questions. Irelandian007 |

HDMI is the best out there right now. Don't be fooled by price. The more expensive cables, like Monster, don't necessarily mean a higher quality. A good place that sells good HDMI cables is monoprice.com. |

Yes for the highest possible video, and audio, HDMI is the way to go. Since this offers a pure digital medium for which the information can travel without having to convert from digital, then to analog and then back to digital, like a component , composite, or s-video cable does. Thus you have no degredation of the video signal.

Higher gauge (the lower the number) is always better, look at the "High-Quality 24AWG HDMI Male to Male Cables". The 22 gauge cables are overkill unless you are running really long distances. http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10240&style= |

Yep very short distance. Thanks for all your help guys.
Not sure if this is the right forum but could you suggest a good sound system to complement the HD TV? |

The bedroom would only be 12ft X 12ft approx - not looking to spend too much probably between $100 - $250.
I have a creative sound system hooked up to my PC - up until know I've been running the sound off this to my HD TV in the other room but sound is not as good as if I were playing directly from PC. |
