+1...took the words from my mouth. I only wish I could have found something that requires a lot less $$ to be appealing.

I sold the 60's this weekend and got my BP6b's. I'll have pics once the center comes in. Again, don't take my changes as saying that the Monitors are bad- they're not at all. What I am saying is that you should buy what you want the first time around (even if it takes longer) rather than just buying what you can afford. i dont like spending that much on speakers

$75 polk cs 1
$280 polk t90e l/r
$80 polk monitor 30

thats enough for me.

plus my onkyo 806 cost me $620

im upgrading my 56" dlp to a 60" or bigger plasma within the month so theres more money, then i have my 2nd child due at the end of july.

i better buy things while i can.....lol. you understand if/when you have kids

And my son or daughter is due tomorrow!!!!! So I felt the need to get this done before she/he? is born, as then I'll have my 4 yr old daughter teaming up on me with her brother/sister for stuff soon enough!

It's just that for now I don't have that much space for something too big
I just want something to get the job done, and having something better than my TV speaker

thats the thing, its an ideal situation. in most cases tho, you can see a number of people follow the said 'rule of thumb' would have a number of mediocre set of bookshelves for the entire soundfield. not that theres anything wrong with it (we all have our reasons, financial being first i suppose), but id rather invest my money instead on the soundstage compared to putting that money towards the rears. as long as the surrounds are sonically comparative to blend with the fronts, theres nothing wrong with such a setup.

again, its a preference, and in my opinion, id prefer to redistribute the money towards a better soundstage, and leave enough to compromise for the surrounds. unless you are using sacds or dvd-audio, you wont be putting too much information in them as you would with the front speakers. with all due respect, i find it a wasted effort to invest in such when you can 'bump up' your fronts to a better line, a better performing set instead of the identicals. IF your surrounds tho are mediocre and cannot perform as close as possible to your fronts, then all bets are off.

WHat does that mean when it say Recommended Amp Power in the power capability of a speaker ?
If I have a Yamaha HTR6150, is it ok ?

its normally a guide for you to match your speakers to your current receiver. it also guides you to see how much it takes to drive the said speaker without overwhelming the receiver at a given time.

remember, these specs are to be taken with a grain of salt, and sometimes not as accurate as we'd like them to be. (most primarily with receivers)

id be more weary about the impendance of the speakers (measured in ohms) versus the power handling

We had both at home with a mid-wife. Nothing like being at home and in the middle of everything....changes your life for sure! I have him in one hand as I type this to show him where to go if Daddy can't answer his questions.

Sorry for the hi-jack....a little ampled up at the moment....

He's not here yet- not till June. But yeah, I'm excited too. Also a little worried I may have to start turning down the volume!

At home? Wow, that must be intense. Give my wife the drugs and the hospitals... PLEASE!
