Maurice Binder's title sequences for James Bond movies are also always a treat. David Fincher also usually has strong openings, with Panic Room being my favorite. |

Since can't top Watchmen (and Catch Me If You Can) already on my short list, I'll just have to stick up for a few underappreciated favorites:
The Abominable Dr. Phibes Mannequin The Pink Panther Strikes Again Superman III Barbarella Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (and all its Meyers-esque rib-bruising nudges to A Hard Day's Night ) (And I have yet to see one mention of Monty Python & the Holy Grail, people... Were we just assuming it as a given, or too traumatized by nasty moose bites?) |

#1. Watchmen - easily THE BEST title sequence I have ever witnessed.
#2. Superman (1978) - I still get thrills and chills because of the score even though I've watched the movie about 100 times. #3. Fight Club - it's just too cool to forget! |

My first thought was Superman (1978) as well.
Run Lola Run's opening sequence is too cool... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZMArPrFYek City Of Lost Children -the credits aren't so special but the scene happening under them is nightmarish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkvCJqhsFrY |
