Default Here is my problem with the codec posts.

I guess I havn't made it clear wh I don't like this codec junk. People are right it has its place and yes MPEG2 is an older format. My problem with the plage of codec post is it has nothinng to do with the thread. Why do we have to waste our time reading about it every other post when it has nothing to do with the topic. I am sure that some onne will start in this thread about it and it is driving alot of people nuts. I have sent a few people here and the repose i got was, "Nice movie list, some good info, well laid out, but what is with all this codec junk. They have no idea what they are talk about." I won't say his name but he is one of the best computer geeks I have evey met. He works for a major company who is supporting HD (Even though he supports blu-ray). So can we please nock the codec post down a bit. It is turn people away.

The codec being used is frequently brought up in numerous threads because for now it seemingly directly translates into how good the picture quality is. Sure there are many other factors but many here, including myself, believe that if a disc uses one codec over another the PQ will start off better or worse. When HD DVD is outperforming BD PQ wise this becomes a major issue at a place called Blu-ray.com.

This is certainly a lot more well written than post 115 of this thread here.

Yes I agree to an extent however, maybe some one should do some resurch on the bugs with the other codecs and conflicts in programing. Maybe that is why we havn't seen to many blu-ray in other formats and so many firmware uppdates on HD. Maybe that is why Xbox 360 HD drive doesn't have a price yet. The guys that work for both of these companies and the studio's are among the best in the world. When you post about codecs, you only see a part of the picture and outside influences, ie people who created the format. Maybe if people were not worried about getting bashed they would post here and give you better reasons. I dissagreeing with the codecs I think people are 1- posting it too much, 2- don't fully understand everything, 3- not putting good reasons down, 4- it has nothing to do with the topic. It has its place, but its place isn't everywere. All I am asking is maybe too cut down on the codec posts, ie put the were the should be, and step back and think of a much bigger picture. There is a reason for everything, you just have to look harder for the answer.
As for the crack about the codec nazi after reading it for the 200th time and thumbing through 11 pages that got really off topic that alot people were waiting for an answer. The message was nessacery but how it was put was wrong. My bad I am sorry if I offend anyone.

Well it's up to the members of this forum to decide if they want less codec talk or not. It's not something I will censor, sorry.

Thanks. Just take it easy on the rhetoric, pal. Throwing around the word Nazi is way overdone on the Internet, in general.

I am not saying censor, that would be wrong. I am hoping that people will read this and maybe think about how often they post it, the effect it has and how it looks to those who could give you a real good answer.
Here is a bit of advise that I always give the people who for me "The answer is right in front of you, you are just asking the wrong questions." It is a real bastered thing to say, but if I gave them the answer their question, they wouldn't understand the real root of the problem and would see the bigger picture.
So if you understand that bit of advise which I am sure 95% of the people here can. You already have the answer to your codec problems/issues without saying it. Rather than saying Sony should be using a different codec for blu ray and that will change the PQ for the better, maybe ask why they didn't use it? Then ask why does HD use a different codec? The ask why there are so many firmwire updates and so many defective players for HD? Hint, Hint. If you ask the right question I am sure there are people out there who know the right answer.

How about just not taking the Internet very seriously, one way or the other.

Don't worry about it.

You can split topics...
A good reason is, for example, because the discussion it developped got off-topic..
But that's not the case here, or is it?

We have a lot of threads that go off topic. The problem lies in that many of the off topic comments are in the same post as some discussion that IS on topic. I can't split a post.

Indeed. But then, I, for myself, consider it's still on topic...
But if it's going about something totally different, far away from the original topic subject for 4 posts or so...
Yeah well, you know.
