Default Face/Off playback issues

Okay this is the first time this has EVER happened to me. I stuck this thing in my PS3 and it took like 5 minutes to recognize the disc. Then it said it was not able to play it. I almost lost it. Then I clicked the disc again and it started up. Not sure what's up with this, anyone else have this problem?

Yes I knew that, they're even heavily(well kind of) involved in Appleseed Ex Machina. Just surprised by this, I own over 130 blu-rays and this was the first one to make me question the quality of my PS3.

As for it not playing in your PS3,that sucks man,but if possible do try to play it an another Blu Ray player and see if the same thing happens,I know people have had some problems with some blu's playing in the PS3! If it plays bad elsewhere take it back,if you have your receipt! Good night and good luck!

LOL my PS3 is my only blu-ray player and I don't know anyone else who has one. Hopefully it'll work fine the next time, even tried to see if my PS3 needed an update and it doesn't.

I had a problem with mine too. It wouldn't play on my PS3, but it played with no problems on my computer. Weird.

The really weird thing is it usually loads just fine now and of the 4 times I tried to make it start just now, only once did I get the ineligible disk error. Wonder why it took forever to load before...

Resurrecting this thread but I have the exact same problem with my copy on the PS3. Has never happened to me before in my three years of owning my PS3 and do not have another Blu Ray player to check it on.

I just received a used copy of the Australian edition.

I own two Blu-ray players...neither recognizes the disc.

I emailed Paramount back in January about my defective copy, and they were kind enough to send me another one. I just received it today (they only looked into it a few weeks ago), and it was a sealed copy, but the disc didn't work on my players. Had the exact same bar code too. Reading this old thread, I guess I should try playing the disc multiple times in a row, but still, what a shame. I hope a 4K UHD release is on the horizon as it's one of my favourite 90's action films.

Face/Off in 4K?

But seriously, with Event Horizon getting a release in the future, I feel like this is gonna be coming soon.

Gotta say I'm surprised Event Horizon was chosen first for the 4K UHD treatment. It seems more of a "cult" film compared to Face/Off, and we recently got Woo's Hard Target. Hopefully it's next year. The Face/Off blu-ray came out a year after The Untouchables, if that's anything to go by for 4K lol.

Paramount is actually going to order and send to me a 2017 Canadian region version of Face/Off. Should take 1-2 weeks they said to get to me. Fingers crossed it works, but gotta love their customer service at this point!

I have Australian release, apparently the picture quality is a minor uptick.

My old Paramount Face Off Blu-ray stopped playing a long time ago. If it’s happening to so many people it must have been a defect in the manufacturing process.

It was a terrible disc anyway. I didn’t know anything about film transfers at the time, but I did think the picture just looked generally “off.” When I later learned about DNR and examples of excessive use it all clicked.

For sure. I even mentioned to the Paramount rep that the issue must be from when it was manufactured, but they said they had no reports of this issue before. On here I've read over the years about people mentioning that it stopped working. It's a shame, even if the disc was poorly made, that it cannot be watched. It's one of my favourite action films, so that's why I reached out to Paramount lol. Hopefully the 2017 disc will actually work for me.

I watched it maybe a year ago, and while the disc technically worked, there were many times where the image seemed to lag only around the top of the screen for a second or two when there was a cut between shots. I had never seen that before on a disc.

I figured a Paramount Presents is likely on the way and I'd just rebuy it whenever that happens.

Well I received the 2017 Canadian disc today, and it works! This was the second disc Paramount sent out to me. I know the blu-ray video/audio quality isn't that good in retrospect/to today's standards, but I just wanted to be able to watch it again as it's one of my favourites. Paramount had some great customer service though. I bought the original blu-ray at release back in 2008 and they were willing to help me out with a free replacement (twice)! I'd certainly buy the 4K UHD if/when it releases.
