I was bored and went to see Knives Out, even though I had told myself to never watch anything by Rian Johnson ever again.
What can I say I quite liked it, only thing that annoyed me was the fake southern accent by Daniel Craig, all in all very good movie. |

His style didn't suit Star Wars for me, too many jokes to distract from the moments intended to be taken seriously, here though it was perfect for this style of film. I agree though Craig's accent was a bit much even if that was kind of the point, this being a send up of sort of Murder on the Orient Express type mystery right down to the eccentric genius detective.

A brilliant thriller from the nose tip to the toes. Had a great time. The cast was excellent, particularly, Ana de Armas, Craig and Shannon. The cinematography was top tier. I was pleasantly surprised by that subtle film grain and artificially induced gate weave on a predominantly digitally shot movie. It was almost film-like, but not fully there.

this movie is great. i don’t know that this would have made my top ten of 2019, but this might be one of the best mysteries in recent years.

Johnson could be on the gravy train for life if he can keep on cranking out murder mystery thrillers starring his new detective Benoit Blanc. Here is to more of them, as the film was superb.
![]() On a side-note, i have no idea how good or bad Craig's Kentucky accent was, though i'd love to know from people who are familiar with th area if it was hit or miss. Nothing worse than a foreign actor trying to nail a non-native accent and missing by a mile... |

Finally saw this in the theaters last night. It was quite enjoyable, and I loved that they played The Rolling Stone's "Sweet Virginia" as the credits rolled. It reminded of the ending of the film Rushmore, when they played Faces "Ooh La La", as the credits rolled.
The only thing that bugged me was Daniel Craig's fake southern accent. Why not just have him be a Brit who now lives in the states? I didn't see the reason for the accent, especially since it appeared the story took place in the Northeastern section of the US |

Johnason wanted to do an Americanized version of a typical British whodunit, so having him speak with a British accent would have defeated that. I think most people enjoyed his exaggerated accent, and found it to fit the tone of the film. The reception he received is the main reason that fans, and Craig himself, wants to see another film revolving around his character.

You know, I didn't think about it until that post, but Johnson should have made this on real film. I feel like that's more fitting for the tone of the film, and its classic whodunit heritage than going with digital.
Reading up on it, it seems it wasn't Johnson's choice, and they shot one scene with 35mm for his birthday to sort of comfort him over losing the opportunity to use film. |
