Maybe you're getting it confused with the TV series, which begins in plot after T2 and ignores Part 3 basically.

a complete 360 would bring you back to your exact point.. it should be a complete 180 from the original film... just a pointer and hope this movie doesn't blow

I'm kind of bummed to hear this. I liked the idea of the "switcheroo" ending. It was as they say "thinking outside the box". Hopefully this new ending is a suitable replacement.

Well for one thing 4 doesn't completely ignore 3, especially since Bryce Dallas Howard is playing John's wife Kate, the same role Claire Danes played in Rise. So they are keeping some of the elements, and since this one takes place in 2018, for all we know they may have been in the bunker from the end of Rise when everything happened and this picks up from there. No way to know until the beginning of Salvation.

It shows a city being blow up during the preview so who knows cant wait for this movie.
