Canada Canada Sin City vs US Sin City?

Hey,

I was thinking about buying the Canadian Sin City. Will there be a difference between the Canadian Sin City and the US Sin City, since it comes out later? I want all my cases to look alike and want the quality to be the best.

Thanks.

I believe the US Blu will have both versions of the film.

Wait another month and get the proper release of the film.

The difference? Those who got the Canadian release got to enjoy this flick on BD that much sooner! The BD quality was more than acceptable and so was the content of the release as far as I was concerned!

Tsk tsk tsk... who's to say that the U.S. release is the "proper" release?

The U.S. release will contain extra footage, yes. However, many people don't realize the sham that is the "Extended Cut." The "Extended Cut" of the film is broken into 4 short films. Each of which has its own credit sequence which comprises of a very high percentage of the additional run time advertised. As such, you don't really get much in the way of actual additional FILM footage. Adding that fact to the inevitable $30+ price tag, and the Canadian release is VERY REASONABLE for the $15 price tag (or less for Americans because of the strength of the U.S. dollar).

Aside from a slight difference in aspect ration, the quality of the video and audio will remain identical on both releases. And therefore, the Canadian release is far more cost effective if you care most about only the film.

SHAM? Not really. It is a cool feature which presents each individual Frank Miller comic (as shown in the film) as an individual feature (just like the comics themselves) and COMPLETE and uncut.

I own the Extended Cut on DVD and I feel completely and totally ripped off by the price tag in comparison to the supposed additional content on the release. I should have stuck with the original DVD release of the theatrical cut. I would have gotten more value out of what I paid for it. And that's how I now feel about the Blu-ray. I'll get more value from the $12.99 I paid for the Canadian release than I would from the U.S. release at $30+.

Being able to watch the stories as their graphic novels are presented is interesting. But, notat all as enjoyable to watch as the theatrical cut where they are all weaved together. And, the 3 minutes (estimate) of ACTUAL extra footage is no big deal.

Basically, it comes down to what you want. The Canadian version has only the movie.

The U.S. version, issued by Disney, has the following (from blu-ray.com):

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Sin City: Unrated, Recut & Extended', which is due to hit store shelves on April 21st. For this two-disc set, video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Extras for this release include:

Disc One: Theatrical Cut
All new Cine-Explore – Innovative Blu-ray technology allows viewers to experience a uniquely interactive visual commentary that pushes the envelope. When selected, see picture-in-picture green screen footage and original art synced with the filmmakers' commentary.
Commentary with Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller
Commentary with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino
Audio Track Featuring a Recording of the Austin Audience Reaction

Disc Two: Unrated, Recut Extended Version
All new “Kill ‘em Good” Interactive Comic Book - Dive into a visually stunning interactive game that puts you in the driver's seat. Exploiting the Blu-ray format in ways never before seen, you finish the story – with guns blazing!
Four Chapters:
Chapter One- That Yellow Bastard
Chapter Two- The Customer Is Always Right
Chapter Three- The Hard Goodbye
Chapter Four- The Big Fat Kill
Rodriguez Special Features:
15-Minute Film School
All Green Screen Version
The Long Take
Sin City: Live in Concert
10-Minute Cooking School
How It Went Down: Convincing Frank Miller To Make The Film
Special Guest Director: Quentin Tarantino
A Hard Top With A Decent Engine: The Cars of Sin City
Booze, Broads, and Guns: The Props of Sin City
Making the Monsters: Special Effects Make-up
Trench Coats & Fishnets: The Costumes of Sin City
Teaser & Theatrical Trailer

I just did a pretend order to see what it would cost from Amazon Canada and with shipping, the Canadian bare bones edition would cost U.S. $22.87. The U.S. version from Amazon US would cost $24.99 plus shipping, so with shipping the U.S. 2 Blu disc version with all the extras would be $27.97 (of course, if you add just one penny for something to your $24.99 U.S. order, you would get free shipping.

My feeling about it is, for the few (and I mean few) extra dollars, go with the U.S. release.

Hmm, well maybe because I already knew what the extra scenes involved, I wasn't dissapointed. I thought it was a GREAT DVD package.

Nobody knows yet, the Japanese release looks better than the Canadian release PQ wise.. It has a finer grain structure, a bit more detail and is compressed better. Alliance used a 'touch' of DNR.

I'm sure Disney's will be as good as the Jap import, at the very least it will be close.. But who really knows, I'm waiting for reviews and screen grabs to show up. I'm not saying the Canadian release is bad or anything, it looks dang nice but it has been topped and might be topped again.. Time will tell.

Amazon.ca http://www.amazon.ca/Sin-City-Blu-ra...7906366&sr=8-1

Conversion to U.S. dollar will make it around $14.39 before shipping.
