Default Home Theater Advice sought

I need some help. My wife and I agreed we could buy ourselves something with our tax return. She paid off her laptop. Me, I have it narrowed down to the following "improvements" (for the record, I have a Harmony 880, a PS3 for BDs/DVDs/CDs, a Denon 3808 receiver, and a Sammy 67A750 LED DLP):

1. New Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray/universal player ($499 or higher): http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/

2. Pro-Ject Debut III turntable (about $350): http://project-audio.com/main.php?pr...tables&lang=en

3. ButtKicker BKA300 Wireless Home Theater Kit ($252 at Amazon): http://www.amazon.com/ButtKicker-Wir.../dp/B001HBH1B2

4. Harmony 1100 Advanced Universal Remote w/ free RF extender ($386 at Amazon): The free RF extender offer expires 3/30, so I'll need to decide quickly on this one. http://www.amazon.com/Harmony-Advanc...7903962&sr=8-1

5. DVDO Edge Video Processor ($699 at Amazon): http://www.amazon.com/DVDO-EDGE-High...7905214&sr=1-1

Oh, sorry, I have Klipsch speakers all around, except for the sub, which is an older Mirage unit that suits me well.

SB3s for the fronts, SC1 for the center, SS1s for the surrounds-- slightly older speaker set, but I'm okay with these for now.

For now, with your equipment and options I would opt for the turntable. It will give you an additional music source which will allow you to play music that is only available on vinyl and either has not or never will be released in another disk form.

Do you have room for towers? Will the wife allow?

If so, I would suggest upgrading the front stage to some towers(starting at about $550/pair) and a new center to match. Might stretch your budget a little, but you could make the difference back by selling your existing speakers.

Or you could upgrade your sub or get a second

likewise, i too, would go with the turntable.

nothing beats spending quality time
-listening to vinyl in <<<STEREO SURROUND>>> with the missus
-finding great deals at record stores (do we still have em?), flea markets, garage sales, with the missus
-learning a new hobby with her, about the cartridges, play speed, and maintenance.

its a great hobby, as you can tell, not only for you, but for the both of you.

in a world currently digital, it always comforts me to know i grew up in an analog one.

That would be my choice. Its dvd upconverting and deinterlacing performance should be very similar to the Edge processor mentioned and you get a good BD player with SACD and DVD-Audio playback as a bonus.

The turntable is also a decent choice but vinyl is a significant commitment beyond the turntable alone.

Thanks for the reply, guys. It's been a great help. I pointed my wife to this thread, and she's leaning towards the turntable, since she has a lot of her mother's old records that she'd like to be able to use.

Funny how something for me has now turned into something for her!

If I knew how to figure out doing multiple quotes (I'm working on it ), I'd quote everyone who suggested getting a turntable.

As a fan of vinyl, I think that a turntable addition to a home theater is just the nicest touch. I'm with the turntable option as well.

I'm surprised by the amount of turntable love on this web site. Which web site is it again?
