Default Home Theater - ONKYO, Need advice?

I need some advice, I currently do not have a Home Theater system and while looking around online I came across the:

ONKYO HT-S5200 7.1-Channel Black Home Theater System

I have very little knowledge when it comes to this type of stuff and I tried to find out as much as I could before posting this but can I get everyones opinion if this would be a good system to have.

My issue is when watching some of my blus I have to turn the volume up high to hear the talking but then it is to loud for the music, explosions, etc. I have tried messing with my settings but that has done nothing.

having an AVR in a system like that will allow you to increase the volume of the center speaker, where most of the dialogue is.

Hey VinnAY, he doesn't state what he is currently using. He is asking for our opinion on the Onkyo that he saw online; that is not what he is listening to. At least that is the way he wrote it!

yeah there's no flexibility with that setup, TV speakers are pretty much crap IMHO. If you did upgrade to the Onkyo (don't let anyone tell you that an HTIB is bottom of the barrel crap, they're fine), you'd gain some flexibility to be able to set the center channel volume as well as some sound field processing options that could increase the dialogue volume. I have the same concerns with a minor hearing deficiency and I can't always make out the dialogue clearly.

Yeah, I didn't think there would be. So, would this be a good setup to accomplish what I am wanting and would it produce the HD sound on the blu ray?

Irrelevant to his question. If he had asked about the dialogue minus the Onkyo system, sure it would be relevant. I think you might need some caffeine in the morning before you start posting with your "Hey VinnAY" attitude, you even yourself say that you're not comprehending the question.

Wow, you really bit my head off and for what i'm not sure. My question was relavent as I was trying to determine if he had a stereo only system or a system with a center channel to determine an answer. what is with the caffeine thing? I said "Hey VinnAY" like I would have to any member here (and I have with my head in tact) as I might if I saw you on the street, I'd say " Hey VinnAY, how are you?" and there was no attitude; I don't know why you took it the way you did. Even the person who posted the question says "sorry if i didn't include enough details" notice he didn't say "gee solarrdadd you need caffine or you don't comprehend my question" Also notice your initial response was to him was about a center channel. Well, he never mentioned he had a center channel or what he was using for sound until i asked him for more information on what he was using for sound. It appears I did comprehend his question correctly and I paid attention to what he asked. If i didn't he would have been the one to tell my that I didn't. Again, don't know why you took it the way you didn't and decided to trash me on a response so in the future I will not quote you or respond to you. I'm here to try to learn from others, help others with what i have learned and have a good time not to get trashed considering I didn't trash you to begin with.

If you do a search of "Sunshine's" posts, you'll see that's a pretty common occurrence Solar. Don't sweat it.

You are asking for opinions on the Onkyo HTIB system listed above and you state that you are having volume issues when watching blu's but you don't state what your listening to them on or playing them with. Are you asking just for opinions on the Onkyo, asking for help with whatever it is you currently have or both?

Please give us some clarity. You may just need to change settings on what you have.

You probably don't want the HT-S5200 as it does not pass the audio via HDMI, it requires a separate connection for audio and therefore cannot do True HD and DTS MA.

What kind of budget are you looking at?

If you are set on going the HTiB route, the Onkyo 7100 & 6100, althought more money, are a better bet than the 5200. The receivers that come with the 7100 & 6100 offer alot more in upgrading/connectivity.

You might be better served to buy a receiver first, and piece together a system separately.

I bought a HTiB about 3 years ago and wish I had just bought separates originally...

I would say my budget would be about $1,000. I definatly want a system that will provide the HD sound.

So, know the budget I am working with and what I already have (nothing and a PS3) what would everyone recommend?

I would say this setup (and most people on here will agree with me that this will be a kickass starter setup that you'll definitely enjoy)

Polk Monitor 60's - $240 shipped (there's a coupon in the Hot Deals thread for this price)

Polk Monitor 40 surrounds - $150 shipped

Polk CS2 - $150 shipped

And then a really good sub like an Elemental Designs A2-300 ($350 shipped) or something comparable (but the A2-300 really is an amazing sub for the price)

And maybe a nice receiver like an Onkyo 606, that would put you at about $1300. And you will definitely be enjoying movies a LOT more with a new setup like this.

Thanks for the information. I went looking around and I put together the following setup:

Polk Audio CS2
Polk Audio Monitor 40
Polk Audio Monitor 60 (x2)
A2-300 Sub: 350.00 or
A3-250 Sub: 400.00
ONKYO TX-SR607 7.2 Channel Receiver

With this setup will I able to obtain the HD sound I am looking for?
