Don't doubt yourself. If you thought you liked it enough to buy it when you saw it, then you should buy it. Just because some people hate the movie for one reason or another doesn't matter. It's their opinion and you already had your's. I haven't even seen the movie yet and I know I'll disagree with the haters. I know I'll enjoy it from reading reviews, but to each their own.

The villain is hardly a villain at all.

He is villainous not only at a personal level, handing his gf over to a ruthless bolivian military dictator and telling him to throw her overboard when he's done, but looking to cheat millions of innocent people out of their water and mislead governments of wealthy countries to think they're going to get oil by working with him. And to top it off, he fronts as an environmental guru. None of that seems evil to you?

There's 1 sex scene very oddly shoe-horned into the middle of the movie.

It doesn't interrupt the flow of QoS any more than Bond's sudden romance with Vesper interrupted the flow of CR. Bond was looking to get over Vesper and agent Fields was attracted to him, so I don't see why you raise it as odd.

The other female lead just doesnt make any sense to me. I dont understand what her purpose was in this movie.

She watched her father murdered and her mother and sister violated by the Bolivian dictator who was now being placed in power of her homeland...she had infiltrated the group that Bond was after. She was motivated by revenge like Bond and found a brother in arms in him. If none of that makes sense to you, you probably just didn't understand the movie. It was maybe too complex and fast-paced for you.

The whole thing was very poorly written and disjointed. The locales arent as gorgeous as the last movie, the action scenes are just annoying to watch with the half-second cuts.

Locales in Italy, Tuscany (Mathis' villa was truly breathtaking), the Andean-region desert, London, all gorgeously filmed and transferred to 1080p. Granted, the style was jumpy, but no moreso than Bourne, and far more tastefully. In addition, the juxtaposition of opera and races to fight scenes was done very artfully in a way anyone can enjoy. You're clearly looking for reasons to not like a very likeably movie.

I basically hated everything about this movie, but it's still sort of watchable just because of Daniel Craig. He plays a good Bond and is the only redeeming quality in this movie. Everything else is just lame. Thats just my opinion. I dont like every movie I watch and am VERY picky. I only like the best of the best, the rest gets thrown in my netflix queue if it is anything less than amazing. Others are better able to like more movies, so I can understand why some like it.

I'm VERY particular about movies, especially action movies. This was top notch. You just didn't understand basic elements of it, as your criticisms reveal.

I think QoS had a great story, it just took me a couple of viewings to get it all. The movie does move a bit to fast and that is the problem with just 1 viewing. After you have seen it a couple of times, it all falls into place.

I completely agree with you. I just don't understand what people want. When you've got a movie that has this much action with extremely crazy stunt and fight scenes and you look at the whole picture it's quite amazing. The level of acting and the storyline was excellent. All you really have to do is watch a bond from the 80's and then this and you'll see what I'm trying to get at.

I agree that this arguing, if not stopped, will continue on forever. It must be stopped at some point, at least. The different views of this movie are so far apart that I cannot see any point in the future when a happy medium will be reached.

I personally find it top-notch and found Gremal's in-depth analysis of "why/how" the movie worked to be a pretty good explanation of all the reasons I feel this movie is just fantastic.

Excellent rebuttal and I agree. I really enjoyed QoS and I think watching CR right before I saw QoS in the theater helped. I enjoyed aspects of QoS more than CR, and parts of CR more than QoS, but in all, I thought QoS was a very good Bond film and much better than some of the Brosnan and Moore movies.

I don't understand the hate for this film. At all. I recommend folks watch CR again before watching QoS as it is basically ACT II.

Checked it out last night for the first time, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with some posts above regarding this movie feeling like the final, action-packed third act to Casino Royale. The next time I watch Quantum, I plan to watch it back-to-back with Casino Royale, I think that'd be the best experience for me...

This from a long time fan of all Bond films.

I thought it was a pretty good film overall, but for some reason I felt it was "rushed" and some of the thought process just fell off to the side. Also felt that the character development was pretty much nil and just thrown into the movie because they felt like it.

AQ and PQ were pretty solid and no complaints there. Guess I was just expecting more from this, especially after Casino Royale.

That said, I'm still glad I bought it. Will rewatch it a few more times I'm sure.

Not really sensitivity; it's just a bit maddening when you can clearly see the things that others do not, especially when their negative opinion is based on those points. Bummer you didn't like it (for you), perhaps the next Bond film will suit your tastes a bit more. Myself, I agree with Gremal, and would add (as I've pointed out previously) that I feel QoS was more about Bond's interaction/growth with M than anything else and in a subtle way, centered on the continued development of Bond's character on an emotional level (read: trust (M), seperation of emotion from job (revenge), overcoming loss and associated rage(Vesper).

The beauty of QoS lies in the subtlety of that layer of development...it's a shame so many viewers missed it completely, and went straight to the criticisms of the way the action was shot.

Ah, well...perhaps the next one will have sexy naked ladies that strip at the drop of a hat, truly evil villians that have chrome blades for teeth and will somehow involve sharks outfitted with laser headgear.
