Only a handful of pop-outs but don't miss this one. Tons of beautifully staged shots with very impressive depth. I didn't care for the lead actor in this but hey, you can't have everything! This story runs concurrently with the groundbreaking 300 starring Gerard Butler. So kind of a presequel, sort of.

Still my favorite DC film, and the 3D was quite respectable. Not as strong as I like but quite a few glorious scenes scattered amongst the milder close up scenes. Like 300:ROAE, there were times that it looked like the screen became an actual barrier to stop pop-outs. Tons of debris shots didn't quite make it out of the scene. Also like 300, but not nearly as much or as strong, there were numerous particles floating in front of the screen (I didn't count those.) None of the pop-outs were what I consider strong and most of them were fast so don't blink.

The true story of the whaling ship Essex that was attacked by a whale, leaving the captain and crew lost at sea. This was, of course, the story that inspired Moby Dick. Directed by Ron Howard, the story is told from the point of view of the last surviving crew member being interviewed by Herman Mehlville.
The good: lots of strong 3D shots with many pop-outs, interesting story, and cinematically pleasing to the eye. Well acted as well for the most part. Also I found this more pleasing as a film. The book, while a more definitive account, was clumsily written IMO. On the other hand the book chronicled much more of the harrowing journey left out of the film. I encourage reading it as it is quite a remarkable tale. The bad: As good as the 3D is, it isn't framed to take advantage of it in a lot of places. If you have a small display, it will be less impressive. Sit closer! Because of that, I left out a dozen or more pop-outs that cross two of the screen borders, most of which are either Nickerson or Mehlville while telling the tale. Sometimes demons are so bad that a normal exorcist just won't do. For these you need, you guessed, HELLBENDERS! "The Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints, a team of blasphemous ministers who live in a constant state of debauchery, work to drag the worst of demons back to Hell. " Starring Clancy Brown of Spongebob, Highlander, and Shawshank fame and Dan Fogler, noted ping pong champion.
![]() Several good pop-outs but nothing real pronounced. This, my second viewing, found me warming up a little more to the humor. This is a pretty well done Horror/Comedy despite its B-movie looks. This just barely made my second best category. Caution, the movie is verbally vulgar. I don't have any complaints about the 3D in this one. This is one of my favorite horror flicks and I don't have many in this genre, which is weird because I watch most of them. Quite a few pop outs but the only drawback is how dark the movie is. Not a problem for the BenQ but was a little less impressive on my Epson. I like the creature designs and the creepy score and tone of the movie. I also really like the pop-out at 16:21 of the table. It isn't very strong, but as the corner of the table extends toward you, it falls deeper into shadow were it blends to the edge of the screen. Probably isn't as convincing on a TV, particularly in a lighted room, but I thought it a pretty clever way to sell a pop-out that butted up against two edges of the screen.
Stars Sean Bean and Kit Harrington whom I believe played father and son in Game of Thrones. I never heard of the girl but she works. Viewed on: BenQ TK800 DLP projector. first post updated ---no-----time----------subject-------------------------strength

"Nova Zembla is a 2011 Dutch historical drama film directed by Reinout Oerlemans. It is the first Dutch feature film in 3D. The film describes the last journey of Willem Barentsz and Jacob van Heemskerk through 1596–1597 when they and their crew tried to discover the Northeast Passage to the Indies"
Nice natural looking 3D but not real strong. Has a handful of pop-outs. This is only available in Dutch as far as I know but it does have English subtitles. While there are a fair amount of pop-outs, only one was really strong. A few were pretty clever and well placed but this is not a recommended movie for pop-outs. At two and a half hours, twenty mostly mild pop-outs doesn't quite seem like enough. I do recommend the movie overall. It makes good use of 3D all the same and is an engrossing watch. One of my favorite 3D movies.

You would expect this to have good pop-outs and it does, from mild to extreme. This is just like the other ones as far as the story goes. Before the end credits there several scenes from the other four films converted to 3D also sporting some pop-outs as a bonus. I didn't count those as they didn't seem to be part of the movie really. I also tend to not count credits in general if you hadn't noticed, but if one is really special I might say something.

This little loved 3D effort stars Sam Worthington with an all-star supporting cast. It is not without pop-outs though. None of them are all that great and many are distorted. Still, I liked the movie and the 3D is good enough to make it my preferred viewing method.

Brought to you by the man who likes to film his daughter naked, Argento's Dracula is high contrast and vividly colored, which is good because a lot of the film is dark. I mostly enjoyed this but I must admit the
[Show spoiler] is just completely silly and shatters the tone (despite it being one of the better pop-outs.) I was also not keen on the male actors that often sounded like they might have forgotten their lines. Sorry Rutger. The 3D is good with numerous pop-outs to enjoy.first post updated Benq TK800 dlp 144" screen seated 12' away ![]() Last edited by Damon1281; 09-30-2020 at 07:33 AM. |

El Corazón y la Espada (The Sword of Granada)
ding ding ding, we have a new winner. Well well. Finally something usurps the top spot in my list. Boasting a pop-out count that rivals Comin' at Ya!, but with perfect alignment (no going cross-eyed here trying to fuse the images,) The Sword of Granada is my new pop-out king. This thing is bursting at the seams even when it's not trying to knock you over, with numerous instances of characters just bulging out of screen and much of the decor hovering outside of the screen. In fact, I doubt there is more than 10 minutes in the entire film where something isn't extending into your theatre room. These are not just quick pop-outs like during sword fights, but objects remaining for most of a scene while still other pop-outs happen. If you are a pop-out fan you must have this in your collection. You can find it on 3D Rarities II, brought you by our friends at the 3D Film Archive. Cesar Romero stars in this vintage Mexican movie. He always seemed short in Batman, but looks much taller here. first post updated Benq TK800 dlp 144" screen seated 12' away ![]() |

Unrelated but may I ask how the BenQ handles 3D? Brightness? Does it have depth adjustment? Ok to dm. |

The BenQ is very bright. The 3D is great, no ghosting on anything, with the caveat that cheap glasses lose sync easily and present weird distortions in color. I splurged a couple of months ago and bought the recommended glasses and have been using the BenQ ever since. I don't know about depth adjustment, I don't see one. |

If the plethora of mild to medium pop-outs doesn't "wow" you, there's always Beau Garrett and Olivia Wilde at their most fetching.

One of my favorite movies but alas, not very impressive 3D or pop-outs. Still I prefer watching it in 3D. It's a little better than the button on your TV...maybe.
