There are a number of audio formats available on BD (of which I couldn't tell you one from the other - aside that Lossless means that it is uncompressed).
My question is, if I don't have a HD receiver (just Pro Logic), would one audio format sound different from another, if all I have is a Pro Logic receiver. Does it make a difference what setting I set the audio to. Will all different formats still sound the same, or would I still get a benefit from one over the other on my receiver? Please advise. Thanks, Ray Boston, MA |

Also, I do have an HD TV that I could hook up my PS3 (would that give me more options)?
It's a Dell 37" W3707C (1080i). |

Lossless doesn't necessarily mean it isn't compressed. It could be compressed losslessly.

First off, how do you have your PS3 hooked up to your receiver?
The only way to get 5.1 loseless audio is through an HDMI connection to your receiver. Digital optical and Digital coax only have the bandwidth to do 2 channel loseless audio. Let your PS3 do the decoding by setting it on LPCM. Plenty of new receivers around $250-300 that does audio through HDMI. |

I meant lossless compression means that you can get back out what you put in, like using WINZIP to compress a file. You can have an uncompressed audio format, like PCM, or you could have a lossless audio format that compresses it but can get back out exactly what was put in (ie. a lossless compressed audio track doesn't throw away audio data, whereas compressing it in a lossly way - like the way the video is compressed in a lossy way like using mpeg style encoding does).
