How Do I Know What the Original Audio Is? - Blu-ray Forum

Some things are fairly obvious. If it's from the 40s, pick the mono. If it's from 2019, pick the one with the most speakers.

But sometimes there are multiple audio options and I'm not sure which is the original. IMDB is rarely helpful in this regard. Is there anything that tracks this?

You can try to research the movie, like accounts related to the sound design, poster/newspaper listings, the end credits sometimes.

Not a perfect source but I do sometimes look at the LD releases for movies released between like 94-97 to see if there was an AC3 or DTS LD, to either show there exists a 5.1 mix from the period or that if there was a 5.1 mix it wasn't released on LD at the time and there might not be one.
