Here are my products:
Sony PS3 Sony Grand Wega: http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-t...-31453800.html Sony STR-DE685 Receiver: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...-20016428.html My question is this...Do I simply need to hook up the TV and PS3 via an HDMI cable and then the Receiver and PS3 via an Optical Digital Cable? Also, will the PS3 optimize everything for me? That is my main objective: to optimize my set up. Also, if there is anything else I can do to make it better, please feel free to guide me. ![]() |

if by optimize you are upgrading from an SDTV and TV speakers you'll have a huge jump.
and yes the PS3 will take care of the surround sound and vide, plug and play. just go into the settings and make sure you have the proper resolutions and codecs that your receiver can handle. if i may add, although your TV and receiver are outdated, it'll still do you well to have a lively gaming experience. |

Other than that, you'll probably need to fiddle with your TV's image settings. TV's usually have different settings per input, and the HDMI input is usually set to waaaaaaaaay too much contrast by default. So play a Blu-ray and adjust your contrast back until it looks natural. You'll probably want to adjust your sharpness setting from factory default as well as that one is usually also set badly by default. |

Ok, thanks. That is great advice. How do I know if my TV can support Full Color RGB? Also, I would like to fiddle with the settings (especiall on my TV) but I literally have no idea where to start or how to make it "pop". I'm just afraid I will jack it up, lol. Any standard advice in this area would be great... |

i think RGB only relates to component use, also, don't color tune your LCD TV to its blacks. that'll be like tuning a set of speakers for higher frequencies w/out a tweeter.
i've been told that tuning the greens to be true color on an LCD is best considering it's an abundant color withing most movies/games and it's rarely got as much gradiation as a blue would. |
