Alright. So far I have the Samsung HL-T5687s (shown here), My 60 gig PS3, My LocationFree Base Station (shown here), My Slimline PSP, & My Dell Inspiron E1705 (no longer manufactured). Sometime in the future, I will be upgrading to the VAIO VGN-FZ190 CTO Series Notebook (shown here).
The only thing that I need to complete my collection is a good sound system. Can someone please recommend which surround sound system I should get that will be a good match with my TV and PS3? I don’t really want to spend more than $1000.00. That being said, I know my PS3 has HDMI 1.3, but my TV does not. The question that I am most concerned about is, is this going to be a problem to achieve the best sound possible? Thanks in advance! |

I got a good Yamaha AV receiver that supports up to 9.1 surround sound and was only $700, and has HDMI... but it was a special deal since it is now discontinued. Whatever you get it has to have HDMI input and output. I suggest yamaha myself as I have never had any trouble with them and they sound great. The price for the newer model are just about $1000 so you might be able to find one in your price range (barely).

The Onkyo 605 is a good beginner's receiver for about US$400. I don't know what kind of 5.1 speakers you can get for about US$600. That's almost US$100 a piece, which is not much.

The Yamaha RX-V661 is a good receiver for the price, about $500 at Best Buy. But I have seen it for $375 open box so that would save you some $. Klipsch Quintet III speakers are great if you have a smaller room. Mine are in a 12x13 spare bedroom and sound fine, just don't know about setting them up in a larger area. You can catch them on sale for around $400 at Best Buy. Now for your sub, you could get a Klipsch 10" for around $375 on sale, or do what I did and get a Velodyne DPS-10 for around $500 and really piss off the neighbors.
![]() Not quite $1000, but I know this set-up sounds great and you can piece it together. |
