with regards to the acoustic resonators, this guy was apparently the 'original' developer.

frank tchangs resonators

although i highly doubt its performance, i cant really say much about it since i havent reviewed it nor had the pleasure of giving away my money to them.

lemme show you his picture tho. oh yes, im sure im going to get some nice replies on this one.

on a serious note, we've also had some great discussions on acoustic treatments, from Subwoofer risers, to diffusers to acoustic panels on some other threads, and was hoping to expound more starting here. I do hope this invitation does stand up for those more interested into learning about acoustics, without discourse to the original posters thread.

jomari ! My theater room is 12'x26' ! Display wall to back wall ~ 12' . front door to left surr. is 14' . My right surr. is next to front door . I have spent alot of time tweeking things to getting everything equal & where it sounds best .
I know I have A good sound system that sounds great , But I know that there is sound bouncing around in here . I do not here any type of echoing , you said something about clapping yesterday ~ This does not echo or sound dead !

If you could go to my Gallery & from the first set of screen shots on is how my setup is right now ! So you can see what I'm working with as far as treating my room properly ! THANK'S

I picked up some foam from FoambyMail, and I'm happy with the results..... although I can't compare their product to anything else.... I'd be cautious of what opinions I take....... Real-Traps saying FBM sucks is like Bose saying Orb Audio sucks They are a competitor in one form or another.

so, finally got the chance to look at your current setup.

i would consider the following:
- you've got highly reflective areas in the room,
a. your glass tables - try putting on some cloth on top of em if ever, and see if this helps out
b. your rear surrounds, yes, their towers, thus difficult to place. id suggest that to treat the area in between with some acoustic panels to avoid secondary reflections.
c. the mains would be hitting your posters. sadly, this is one 'mistake' a number of HT enthusiast would make regarding their HT setups. tons of poster displays made of glass mean tons of reflection points.

these arent rules or guidelines, but help in understanding your current set up. i wouldnt blame you for having the posters, nor the glass furniture. we all have our own preferences, and realistically, aesthetics always wins versus performance.

the reason why we want acoustic treatments done in our room is because we want to listen to the music, and not the room.

hey driver king, im looking at your current setup, and more likely, id consider more of placement as an issue, and a couple of bass traps, more likely as BD did with his surrounds with the corner treatments.

sorry folks, its 1am and kinda had a long day.

can i get back to you driver king in a few days?

im sure bd can also give you some input. as much as ive seen everyones setup, i rarely comment, or add on anything because i respect each individual here, and have their reasons as to why we have our current setups.

I have enough bass traps to shove all over this house, however, it is a temporary placement. I wondering if I just place my "bass traps" in the corners, will that be ok?...or do I actually have to attach them to the wall using glue? I would assume it would help with corner standing waves at somewhat of a decent amount? Only thing that sux is my corners are functionable, meaning there are doors or something in each corner, so I would have to move the bass traps each time I wanted to access the underside of the bookshelves. That's why I'm asking if I would really have to adhere it to a surface, or they they could just sit there.

This is a really great thread...

While I am not a DIY'er, I definitely can see the value of acoustic treatments.
Several months ago I added an Auralex Gramma riser under my HSU STF-2, and it made a very noticeable difference to sub output. It also helped to quiet a few things near the sub which tended to rattle during parts of movies that had deep bass. It also greatly helped the problem I was having with my neighbor hearing my sub too much (common wall condos ).

We are wanting to buy some new artwork for the room, and I am strongly considering the SonicPrint panels from Auralex. They are a dual purpose acoustic treatment/artwork in one. Pretty affordable too. I will probably be adding at least 1 2x4 panel to the bare wall to the left of the primary listening area. We just need to pick out the design we want...

just place em in the corners, dont glue em, and just make sure theyre nice and snug. dont have to put a whole buncha them if you'd have to take them out everyday (like at the door area). you can try to experiment with them when you want to, and if you like the results, place em when you use em.

notice the difference?

DK,

sorry bud, i feel like im rushin to hell or something *see my other postings*...

- i know its going to be hard, but pulling the fronts away from the walls 'might' improve their performance. i see the door, so it may cause a problem.
- consider putting carpet underneath the fronts by the way? got spare carpets and give em a shot. OR put a bigger carpet in front of them to avoid reflections.
- rear surrounds on the corners - big suggestion would be like BD's, put some corner traps on em.
- rear 'rear' surrounds - well, we cant do much with those right? keep em as is.

great job, but i cant really figure out the room layout.

dont say i forgot you dk.

put them in the other two corners of my room, snug against the molding where the wall meets the floor. As for a difference in sound?...nothing I could really tell, but I'm sure it's doing something. Good enough for now!

liquidice, your pics have inspired me to look seriously into sub risers and bass traps for my set up. I have the one sub about a good foot or foor and a half from the wall within the front sound stage (this is not in my pics as I have moved them again since the pics were taken....you know, always moving the 2 subs around!) and the other sub is a good 2 feet from the wall behind my primary seating position, so I believe these would compliment my subs very well.

everyone in the entire world should consider building/buying a sub riser and stuffing them! From what I've heard about Polk subs, you may see the most benefit from the riser and poly-fill. I would highly recommend building them yourself, you'll appreciate them even more! I'm not a general wood-working kind of person, and even I had fun making them! Everything you'll need is at Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, or Fleet Farm. I'm sure one of those have to be close to you. Keep up posted, and take pics of course!!!
