Graphics look closer to PS3 than PS4.

Such a fan of the comics and cartoon growing up in the 80's...love the comic book look of the game, will definitely look into it, a shame their is no PC version as I mostly PC game nowadays but sometimes revisit my PS4...Spider-Man was the last game I purchased/played on my PS4 so, I'll give it a go.

There will be a PC version, not sure why it was not shown in the video

Looks interesting as a fan of the cartoon series of the 80s.

I wonder if we can play as any character at any time or if it's all story driven that determines it in GI Joe for PS4.

I don't know if anyone can match the original voice of Cobra Commander from the series. That was a one in a million voice.

Getting delisted at the end of the year, not sure if this is only for Steam or all digital stores.

Thanks. Lowest I ever saw this for was 9.99. $5 more than I was willing to risk. They made GI Joe, but it doesn't look like the style of GI Joe of the classic TV series, so I kept holding off.

That beat 'em up GI Joe game for Steam, that is not my preference either, despite being a fighting game fan. GI Joe soldiers, fighting with fists 95% of the time instead of laser guns? I don't know, but it doesn't seem consistent with the TV series. TMNT is more accurate for a beat 'em up IMO.

We had the perfect GI Joe game years ago in the form of Command and Conquer Renegade.

Anyway, I have the GameStop exclusive Gold edition of Operation Blackout. It existed mostly to promote the SnakeEyes film and I believe it had a very low run. AFAIK it’s a unique SKU from the original retail run and is the only way to obtain the game + all DLC, even including some exclusive movie themed DLC, all on the disc or cart. When I installed the disc it was the latest version of the game and no DLC needed to be claimed. This is the version to track down if you want the most complete version for archival purposes.

The game itself isn’t bad. Well, it’s definitely not as bad as some have made it out to be. It’s a budget game for sure, but the art design is in line with the Classified figures line and the gameplay is competent. I think it just needed a little more time in the oven. Standard weapons really needed to be hitscan, but every weapon in the game is projectile based. Spastic enemy movement and frequent long distance encounters exacerbate the issue. This usually results in players crutching on characters with fast firing weapons like Snake’s SMG or AOE launchers like SciFi’s weapon.

Nice, I assumed the DLC was a code to be redeemed. I think the movie outfits are only $2 on the digital stores but on disc is obviously better.

Inspired by this thread I fired this up on my PS5 for the hell of it last night. I reinstalled offline to make sure that everything was on disc and that there were no updates. Yep, all of the DLC is there. I went looking around on PSN. Strangely, there isn’t any DLC at all. I checked Steam and the movie skins aren't available, but the classic skins, weapons skins, and art/soundtrack dlc are.

Renewed impressions after a couple of hours: It’s difficult to describe how bad aiming is in this game. At times it feels like the game is phantom nudging the crosshairs away from enemies. Because of the above post mentioned ‘every weapon is projectile based’ and the enemies run around like a bunch of low-level multiplayer bots, auto aim makes things worse. Enemies have aim bot accuracy though. Burst fire weapons are physical pain to use, my god. I recommend choosing the weaker character (players are paired with an AI in single player stages) and letting the AI co-op partner blast away with their stronger weapon. They aren’t perfect, but I found they do a far better job in close quarters skirmishes. Movement is competent at least and characters have unique doge moves like rolls and dashes with cool down after use.

The aesthetic is very PS3 ported to PS4 and levels are mid PS2 corridor shooter affairs with some open areas thrown in for circle strafe fun. I remembered the game to be running at 60fps, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It looks like 30 with heavy motion blur. Performance is as good as it can be at 30fps on PS5. Assets and textures have that Unreal Engine pop-in from the PS360 era too.

I would be interested to hear from someone on the development team. There were obviously some fans of the original show involved. There are lots of little Easter eggs like Snake Eyes’ disguise and Roadblock’s chef outfit. The voice work is surprisingly well done and most of the cast is doing their best to evoke the old 80s Sunbow actors. Except Destro… what the…

Enjoyment will be highly dependent on the player’s tolerance for jank and legacy 3rd person shooter tropes from over a decade ago. Being a fan of the property does some heavily lifting here. For the best experience I recommend playing through on the easiest difficulty to unlock a few cosmetic items and the modifier cheats. This will help fix a few things like bullet sponge enemies. Turning on piercing rounds for the players, explosive enemies, and more frequent ammo drops and playing the game on medium or normal difficulty actually feels balanced. The player isn’t overpowered and hordes will good down quick while higher level enemies and bosses are still a challenge. There’s no penalty for using these, so why not.

The campaign can also be played in split screen co-op, which is a novelty these days. The battle mode seems like it could be a fun random trash shooter to put on with friends over.

I didn't realize the DLC wasn't available on PSN/Steam/eShop. I see "Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow Movie Skins" on Xbox though, is that the bonus DLC? It is the only thing not included in the deluxe edition.

Haha that’s them. I read the details for the deluxe edition on Steam and I didn’t see them there either.
