Torn between religious pacifism and patriotism, Alvin York of Tennessee went on to become World War I’s most acclaimed hero. As the simple backwoods farm boy who captured 132 German soldiers during the Battle of Argonne, Gary Cooper (handpicked by York) also won acclaim and his first Best Actor Academy Award®. Released in 1941 when the United States was on the brink of another war, this stirring adventure inspired thousands of enlisting men. Nominated for a total of 11 Oscars® including Best Picture, a winner for Best Film Editing and movingly directed by Howard Hawks, it tells of a religious man’s moral crisis, heroics and subsequent return to the rural life he loved while refusing to capitalize on the adulation heaped upon him. An ode to patriotism and the human spirit, Sergeant York endures as one of Hollywood’s finest hours.

My Hawks Blu-ray collection continues to grow.

Now just give me Bringing Up Baby, Air Force and The Big Sky and we'll really be cooking.

...and if it isn't too much to ask of Paramount, a proper release of Hatari!.

I haven't seen this since elementary school. I live in a small town, and one of my aunts was both my 4th grade and 6th grade teachers. I think it was in 6th grade that she introduced us to this film. I recall enjoying it, but I honestly couldn't give you the details of a single scene from memory. I'd love to give it another go, especially with the WAC treatment! Those folks have their restoration pipeline down.

Do we think this will have all the extras from the DVD, like the Gary Cooper: American Life, American Legend documentary?

If it does they will more than likely all be in standard definition. If not included on the blu ray i will just put the second dvd extra disc into a double disc blu ray case to keep with the blu ray.

Awesome. This should be a stunner of a disc because I believe the elements were in need of sprucing up and they had to wait to be able to find better ones. WB wouldn't or couldn't even send prints for screenings so I've been to one before where they had to literally just project the DVD.

Hope they did so here..

Went to a small school where a lot of the teachers had kids who went to the school. Sometimes a teacher would have to teach another grade when it'd happen so the kid could learn from someone besides their mom. As for SY, never seen it and it looks interesting.

As a Born Again Christian, a US Air Force veteran, an army national guard veteran, an extreme Gary Cooper/walter Brennan fan and an extreme lover of Hollywood's Production Code films, I am counting down the days for this release. Hollywood has never made films as good before the production code or after.

Many will beg to differ with you. I think that the pre-code era is home to some of the best films ever made. And I'm not so crazy about the censorship of homosexual themes in various films from the Hayes code period, especially in Tennessee Williams adaptations.

It looks like this release will be omitting the following from the 2-disc DVD release:

(1) Gary Cooper Trailer Gallery;
(2) Gary Cooper: American Life, American Legend - Documentary

That's a bummer as I would love any supplements they can add, but I've been waiting for decades for a HD upgrade to this fine film, so I'll take whatever I can get. I just hope PQ is a good upgrade if nothing else.

The two Scarfaces alone is enough to invalidate his argument.
