Default HD Guru Panasonic TCP50G10 Review

This review should be helpful for those that have been eyeing this TV. I'm waiting for the V10, but this review is definately encouraging. I can't wait to see the V10 now.

Hmm, not bad. I'm still going to wait and see what the V10 series has to offer. I think it will have enough improvements over the G10 series to justify the higher price.

I'm also waiting for the V10 before i make my decision. V10 has 96hz for 24p content "should eliminate flicker". Digital Cinema Color and more. We'll see.

Sold, I was planning on researching as many TVs as I could before making my choice. But I love my current panny, that I knew I would be leaning towards a panny but after seeing this review looks like this will be the tv I'm gonna get.

Don't forget the single sheet of glass design on the V10 and Z10.

Yeah, this TV seems to be worth every penny. I can't wait to see what the V10 series has to offer and receives a review as well. I think the big difference will be the 96hz, like someone mentioned earlier and maybe even better blacks.

I know that we are constantly hearing about a flicker problem with the 880 u.I have had mine since January and have had no such problem.Could it just be a random problem or is it because I am using a BD30 and Panasonic SA-BX500 receiver? Either way it is not a problem for me.

The G10 does have a flicker issue when using 48hrz but when switched to 60hrz no flicker, and i recently read that if the set does correct 3:2 pulldown then 60hrz works. the g10 does do the 3:2 pulldown correctly, all this aside i've had my g10 for better than a month now and i'm really loving it it's a great set loaded with features, excellent pic quality at an amazing price, espeacially for what your getting. THIS THING ROCKS!!!!!!!

The TCP50G1 accepts 1080p/24 signals that may be displayed at 48Hz or 60 Hz. Like last year’s TH50PZ850 reviewed here, the 48 Hz rate suffers from image flicker and is deemed unwatchable. Use the 60 Hz mode.

Hmm...I thought this problem was going to be fixed with these new models. What about the 54-inch models due out in May?

The V and the Z series have the 96hz model that corrects the flicker problem.

Thanks for that.

The 54" due in May is the V series? Panasonic is killing me with all these models...simpler is better damnit

If the Kuro 60 inch doesn't drop below $3200 (my price point) and I am still unemployed, I'll probably pull the trigger on a 54" model ... as long as it has the 96 hz rate. Guessing this thing will clock in at around $1,800 or so (street price)

The V series should be the best from Panasonic's line this year save for the Z which is a slimmer version of the V series with a few added features. The Kuro is the best, but I suspect that the V series will equal it or at least come extremely close since the G10 which according to HDGuru's review is already on the Kuro's heels. I think the 54" will come in between $2000 and $2500, but who knows. The 50" G10 came in around $1900 and it can already be had for $1650 shipped on Newegg. That's pretty good considering its only been out for a couple of weeks. I doubt you will see the 60" Kuro come down that low since the demand has increased and the supply will be dropping. It's $4300 on Amazon when it used to be $5500 so it's already a good deal...if you can afford it that is.

I've only seen the 50" V10 so far listed as coming with the single sheet of glass design.

I don't think it corrects it, but rather will change it totally.

We watched numerous sources over the week-end on a 42" G10 and in no instance could the flicker have been described as "unwatchable". From Band of Brothers to Pixar to Harry Potter, the 48Hz mode still looked great.

In fact it's most noticeable when you look 2ft away off to the side from the screen, but you wouldn't watch TV like that anyway. The 96Hz will increase the refresh rate to a point where you can't notice the rate, at 48Hz you can...same as with any PC monitor.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a G10!

Quick question about the whole Hz and flicker issue.

Assuming that no flicker is present or visible on either setting which one is better to use? Which one does panasonic want us to use?

For example when I get it, I'll use 48Hz and if theres flicker, I'll switch it to 60Hz. But if I cant see flicker at 48, then just leave it at 48 right?

And it seems as though the higher the Hz the better (V10 96 Hz, no flicker). So doesnt that mean 60 Hz would be the more desirable choice following that logic?

I thought they were going to offer it for the 50" and 54" sizes, but the only information about it suggests that it's only the 50":
