Some concepts there:
A thumbnail bar for games at the bottom The selected game reveals a panel of content icons - the first panel has a quick menu, which would feature elements common to across games...party setup, playtime tracking, restart buttons etc. - the rest of the panels are in-game events, missions, hints, video content from the game etc. etc. These are context aware and custom for each user. So if you just finished mission 9, a mission panel for mission 10 would show up, the hint panel might show hints for that next mission etc. Scrolling over content panel icons highlights friends that were active in that content - so if one of the icons is for a specific mission and a friend has been playing, it'll highlight their icon, and you can tap through to see more info on that activity There's talk about a dynamic 'waves' background with particle effects etc. The waves and particle effects can respond to focus/highlight certain things going on, undulate high or low. When you're not focused on game content panels, friends are up at the top of the screen, along with the usual icons (messages etc). A group of 'close' friends can have their thumbnails highlighted, with the rest of your friends behind the normal friends/message icons. Friend thumbnails can be augmented with indicators around their activity - e.g. if they're livestreaming, or starting an event, or if they just messaged you or whatever. When something like that happens, the icon can be highlighted momentarily. Popping friend thumbnails above the 'water line' in the waves background when they start some activity or message you is one example." https://www.freepatentsonline.com/WO2020184375A1.html |

Hopefully we get some PS3 functionality that skipped PS4 like Away/Busy status and notifications for when people sign off PSN. And also for your game tiles, folders, settings, theme, audio/vieo settings, etc to sync to the cloud and auto-sync when you login to a new console or reformat it. And for the notifications to be movable to different corners of the screen, I prefer bottom right for most games that have nothing there.

I don’t see anything happening from Sony other than a PS5 Console launch trailer at this point. + the occasional leaks of info from 3rd parties of stuff just like this UI patent. Speaking of patents, I saw a really interesting tech YouTuber go over the possibilities of PS5 actually using liquid metal. He went into great detail over that patent & the actual chemicals to make a non-toxic liquid metal cooling solution. Basically he believes it’s real & will be implemented. I still have my doubts. If true though, anyone doing a PS5 tear down video will literally break their PS5 & break their warranty. The 2 materials remain solid over the main SOC (instead of thermal paste) until the chip heats up over heavy load according to this tech guy. |

If people (YouTubers) decide to tear down this thing (Looking at SpawnWave for example) & they try to clear the LM compound to get to the SOC, That System is as good as dead “if” Sony actually implemented LM. |

The patent for the liquid metal cooling solution was for the chamber that houses the liquid, because the liquid is highly corrosive the components in the console it is supposed to be cooling Sony needed a way of containing the liquid so that it wouldn't destroy the console.
It's only going to be a tiny amount of gallium, like a pea sized drop maybe smaller, but it will need to be housed in copper, which is likely why the cooling solution was costing a couple dollars to make vs pennies of traditional heat sinks. |
