How many years did you use your home computer before upgrading for a new one...
I have had my old Hp Pavillion since 03 with and old Sony 15in Monitor that takes up alot of place. In the process of upgrading now... |

I used my previous laptop until it died on me, I could hear the HD spindle needle thingy hitting something.
My new Acer laptop is great. HDMI out with 720p support. Just need a wireless mouse and keyboard so I can just leave it hooked up to the TV. I still want a netbook though. Something to take on trips and leave in the bedroom. |

In the past I have upgraded every two years like clock work.... however my current PC is over 4 years old and still does everything I want, except record satelitte tv in HD. I won't be upgrading until there is a good solution for that.

I'm coming up on three years for my laptop (my primary computer for everything I do that involves anything that I need in a computer), and it's about time. Before that, I had my last laptop for about three years as well. So I'd say about every three years. We don't have any desktops in my house anymore with the exception of the server and HTPCs, but we don't have a traditional desktop setting, as it just takes up too much space in our place. I ousted the desk late last year after I decided to have my living room a little more livable and feature -- get this -- actual floor space and home theater rather than being overtaken by a desk. There are times when I miss a desk, but for the most part I'm glad we did away with it. The only issue we have is when we need to print something, as I don't have my printer hooked up to the network (yet); I have to drag it out and hook it up whenever I want to print something.

I used to do every 2 years, but since I don't really game on it this one is already on year 3. Using my primary desktop as a media center too, runs what I want quite well. But I do have a 6 year old system (bought used) that is chugging along quite nice performing a server-like function.
My wife and I each have our own laptops, and since we pretty much use them for internet and my wife's more for gaming (hers is a Dell XPS M1730) they'll last us for at least 5 more years. Just don't really need the high end systems between my 3 xbox's and the PS3. They cover all my entertainment needs, really. camper |

As far as net books I still love my 8.9" Acer Aspire. I have been reading about the new Asus 1000HE though. This past week a woman I talk to in Starbuck's got one, so I took a good look at it. It's nice. ![]() Funny thing is she likes the size of my Acer better. So I may work out a deal and give her my 8.9" for her Asus. |

Mine is going on 5 yrs old (although I do have a Laptop about 2 yrs old) and I need a change desperately. It's slower than molasses and the videocard sucks huge. I'm biting the bullet on a new one this year, because I can't deal with the restarts and reboots all the time. I'm maxed out on RAM and all I have is PCI....so a new videocard isn't even possible anymore.

My current main computer (an iMac) is about a year old. Before that I had an HP laptop that I used as my main computer, for the last 5 years or so.
It still ran fine... when it was running. The main issue was the battery would die very quickly (when I first got it, it'd last about 90 minutes on a full charge... by last year it would last for about 3 minutes). Not a huge problem, but that defeats the purpose of having a laptop. Second problem was that it wasn't always sensing that the AC adapter was plugged in. There could be a few reasons for that, but none of which I cared to address. Third problem was that the hinges for the screen became very week, so if I didn't have the laptop open at an obtuse angle, the screen would slam shut. That was somewhat of a pain, but tolerable. My next computer will be a MacPro, but I imagine I won't get one for a while. Unless I can manage to steal pacvibe's. My laptop was top of the line 5 years ago, but I treated it well enough that even though it doesn't hold a candle to today's laptops, it still ran just fine (and quite fast) for any of my needs. |

I've got a Gaming PC that is a year old and I think I will be getting nVidias most high end GPU of next year. And will be overclocking my CPU. So yeah I just basically have moved onto upgrading parts now instead of getting a totally new PC.
