PSM reviews lair and warhawk - Blu-ray Forum

Well the official review is in from PSM LAir 5 out of 10 and warhawk 6.5 out of 10. Remember that its all about what you think of the game, but i usually agree with PSM. They usually rate games high so I take these reviews seriously before I buy. Take this as you wish. heads up

LOL! so much for that lair delay, they did absolutely nothing, i knew that game was going to fail..same goes for warhawk, but im kind of surprised on that one

just got my psm as well, ugh i'm so disappointed i'll still rent it b/c on occasion i have liked games that they didnt but generally their reviews are pretty accurate to my taste although they have gone through a almost total overhall of their staff in the last few months....i so wanted lair to be good it sounded like a great game when i first heard about it!

atleast unreal tourney looks amazing...how come in psm it said console exclusive it made no mention of just for a time? i thought it was only for this year? the article makes it seem like it's only gonna be on ps3 and pc...

Have any of you played the folklore demo that was released on the PSN today?

Folklore is going to be fantastic! Also it is the kind of Japanese style game that will never be made in abundance for 360. This is a huge reason that I bought the PS3 besides just Blu-ray. All the great games coming from Japan studios.

What worried me about Lair is that they didn't release a demo which seemed like a bad sign.

I'll still buy Lair but will wait until its on the discount rack.

I was also deeply disappointed with the lair review. At first I could not believe the EGM review but gamepro gave a similar perspective and now PSM seems to agree as well. Now I will wait and see how Heavenly Sword is reviewed.

Folklore turned out to be not my type. Maybe someday down the road, but no thanks for right now.

If Warhawk turns out to be HALF the game the Beta was, I'm going to love it. So I'll be buying on day one for sure.

Lair I am still undecided on. I dont usually agree with 'official' reviews. I think Kotaku had a review up today, and they liked it. Thought the motion controls were outstanding. I'm personally going to wait for more 'real people' reviews, not just stuff from magazines.

That is the u.k. site though which is known to give low scores. Also, the only video game they care about over there is football(soccer), which I am a big fan of as well.

Please drop the flamebaitish negative attitude, if a review score really changes your opinion from what you've already played so drastically forget the game and move onto the next.

The reason that most reviewers are not willing to give it a good score is because they are trying to compare it to GOW. They feel HS did not live up to the hype so for that it must be punished through a low score. If you read the review, they say there is nothing wrong with the game except that it was expected to deliver more and fell short.

it also said like the pacing was bad...whatever that means

and the gameplay is repetitive, i doubt thats possible since the combat system is so much fun...

i guess your right, it just didnt live up to its hype

killzone suffered the same thing

Yeah, I read those reviews, too. Sigh....
Still, while PSM is a decent rag, they have a lead time of weeks-to-months like all magazines, and that doesn't always reflect final builds. Lair was reportedly pushed back because of control issues or something, IIRC, and they can continue to tweak that before pressing a single BD, and then address other gameplay issues beyond that through updates. As a person who plays a ton of PC games, I'm used to product being dumped on the shelves when it's in a barely playable state (the Battlefield series!) and then being fixed through countless patches. The flaws PSM sees in both games are all easily fixed by an update, as Lair's issues seem to be primarily due to the control scheme, while Warhawk strikes me as a game that can (should) be tweaked forever, as it's essentially an MMO war game, like the Battlefield games, and new maps, new modes of play, and gameplay tweaks are essential to the longevity of such games (and also serve as a great excuse to fix any little bugs and performance issues along the way).

I think Sony should worry a little less about a "tentpole" game, though, and focus their advertising on making the U.S. buyers aware of the fact that the system IS a total media hub (BD player, Web Browser, Media Center, *Tivo, Games Machine) all in one unit. That more than justifies the price difference between it and the X-Box 360.

I have Warhawk pre-ordered, I read PSM...but honestly for giving the game a 6.5 all they said was...

1. No bots (ok...I'm playing an online multiplayer game, I don't want bots)
2. Unbalanced weapons/Vehicles (like that isn't going to be fixed in an update/patch)

...So PSM if they fix those two flaws, whatcha gonna give the game?

Hell, they could put bots in with an update/patch. Then they complain about the price. You're getting a headset and PS3 game that essentially has an unlimited replay value, I'd say that's worth 60 bucks . Finally though, the game is somewhat big for Sony and basically an MMO war game online (as someone else said). They are going to tweak Warhawk to perfection (I hope).

I'll be playing this week...hit me up online

huh? I don't know...I have the Xbox 360 versions and they play and run as smooth as butter

So they rated Resistance Fall to Man a 9.2, I rented it i think it's a 7.2

They rated Wii sports 7.5, I think it's 9.0 (i would have given it 10 but the boxing minigame is flawed, everything else is extreamly fun, oh yes chicks dig it too. )

IGN rate most Wii games average, Save the franchise games.

I don't rely on reveiws anymore as i think differently about games than most reveiwers do. I think games like Bishock, Darkness, and Resistance are for StarWars/StarTrek/Matrix trillogy watching dweebs who think that good games are mearly good graphics and a gun. They have closed minds to other genres and feel that every gamer is too.

Too me FPS gmaes have long become tired and far too similar. Take a non core gamer (like your Little Sister, Girlfriend, or even people who have far better things to do than play games all day), would they know the difference form the three games i mentioned, not really. I need games that were developed by people who can think completely out of the box to deliver a unique expereince.
