5.1 setup with ps3/xbox360... - Blu-ray Forum

if i were to play a game with properly set up surroud sound system would i get the proper sound i recieve from movie with games aswell?...

like when i play call of duty or uncharted...if some one is shooting me from behind will i hear that gunshot from one of the rear speakers?

Yes, although some mixes work better than others. For example, my COD4 did a great job of reproducing surround sound, but my Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 doesn't do anything more than a general approximation.

Oh yes you can. With the optical or hdmi route you can kinda - sorta pinpoint where sounds are coming from. Some games are better than others at doing this. I know when I played call of duty 2, I was amazed at how the gunfire whizzed by from the surrounds. And... It only has gotten better with games.

I cant imagine playing COD4 without surround sound. Grenades that dont shake the walls?!?!?! whats the point?

i have only hooked up my 2 fronts (T90e's) and i was amazed at the sound difference on my games. the gunfire and explosions on socom were so much clearer. and i could tell what side people were shooting from and thats only with 2 speakers.

Yes, you do get surround effects, and it's great. After all, isn't that why games are made in 5.1 now?

Some games even have 7.1 mixes now and are amazing. The Metal Gear Solid 4 audio is awesome as is Uncharted.
