Projected Sales Xbox360 and PS3

Given the Xbox360 has sold over 8,000,000 units and expects to sell 10,000,000 by the end of 2006, I would be interested to know what each console expects to sell over its lifetime?

They don't know
I do know this:

Worldwide Hardware Sales (End of September 2006)
PS2 - 111.25 million
Xbox - 24.5 to 24.6 million (unofficially estimated)
GameCube - 21.2 million
Xbox 360 - 6 million
Game Boy Advance - 76.79 million
Nintendo DS - 26.82 million
PSP - 22.94 million

Other figures showed a further increase in sales for the PS2, outselling Xbox360 and GC! For the holiday season... Dunno, we'll have to see.

The PS1 sold 102 million and PS2 sold 111 million, Sony has said they expect the PS3 to reach 100 million in its lifetime.

Realistically the 360 should sell in the 20 to 30 million range.

Do you think we can get 2 million PS3 units out by Dec. 31?

It looks like we are 1.6 million units short of that title.

they also came down in price over time

i remember thinking the ps2 was expensive when it rolled out. but for how good of a system it was, it seemed like a good deal to me. this is supported by the 111 million sold. the ps3 is in the same boat. if you don't want it at $600 (for the expensive one mind you) then don't buy it. prices will eventually come down just like the ps2. i however think that for what you are getting, it is a deal as well.

They also sold a vast majority of those 100 million after the prices came way down. You would have to see how many of each sold at the introduction price to determine if the PS/3 was falling behind.

Incidently, this is also the same reason for all the negative polls for the PS/3 pricing. The vast majority of those interested weren't in at the intro price of the PS/2. Why would people expect them to want to pay the intro price of the PS/3?

Anyway, in the end I think it will be about the games and the extra utility that they bring to the PS/3. If games that grab the imagination are released, then it will be those that sell the console during the mass adoption phase.
