Talking BJ's carrying Blu-ray sucks! (Not for the reasons you think...)

I was driving to Cape Cod last Friday night and we stopped to get a pizza. We had 15-20 minutes to kill, so we stopped at BJ's to do some browsing..etc.

Right as we walk in, there's a nice big Blu-ray Display. I think the BDP-S300(?) player was the one on display. There were probably close to a dozen on the display and Planet Earth and 300 were sitting there. Planet Earth was $70 (Best Buy my ass!! Try Worst Buy! ) and playing on the TV.

My wife sees the display, sees the price ($449) and says "I hope you didn't pay that much for our player!!". I simply responded "Nope, I didn't pay that for our player". After that she was a bit annoyed.. Thankfully I didn't have to mention that I paid $50 more BJ's nearly got me in some deep trouble though.. I'm just glad it wasn't a PS3 display!!

wives make life grand....i have been hitched for 15 and a half years and its never without a day that goes by that you learn some little quirk about the better half that makes you crack a little smile. and you wonder what you would do with out them.

Why is it that women always think the latest and greatest is supposed to be cheap?

Let's say that Blu lost...how would we explain packing up the players and the movies putting it in the basement and moving on to somthing else.

I own both, so I accept that some day its very likely I will not be able to buy new movies for at least 1 player. Doesn't bother me at all though - I know I'll still be able to watch anything I've already purchased. I might even pick up a standalone once it happens, just to have a backup player.

Hey, that diamond they wanted wow how much AV equipment could I buy instead of spending money on a 3 carat marquis cut diamond? Glad I'm divorced. I buy what I want......

That is a good story. Luckily, I got my wife to buy me the PS3 for my birthday. She wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of spending $600 on a game machine, but she did it anyway. That was eight months ago.

Now, 32 blu-ray movies and six PS3 games later, I'm as happy as a pig in a poke.

Wives perspectives are a little different. You should have broken it down into its worth in clothing. I know that's what I had to do with mine!

That's perfect, ahahha.

The best part is that I thought I was the only one consistenly lying to my wife about prices for all of the stuff I bought.

Really, I think most women just don't understand why we so desperately need to spend thousands to tens of thousands of dollars on this stuff.

Luckly, my wife doesn't really have a thing for expensive clothes or jewelry, so I can usually budget money solely around my selfish needs, and my sons, my six year old and the baby coming in novembers needs.

Default Life's unfair

Just get them to admit that the stones in jewellery stores and those handbags with fancy letterings are all ripoffs, and all of a sudden the tables are turned, and they think you're cheap.

If you try to explain about the whole DeBeers conspiracy about diamonds, she'll just assume you're playing headgames and have the wrong priorities about life. Yes, why would you spend all that money on a stupid TV you can hang on a wall, when for a few hundred more you could have got this nice necklace.

The logic is undeniable

I guess I'm lucky, my girlfriend paid for half of our PS3... granted, she's a gamer and is eagerly awaiting Final Fantasy 13. Now, the fun part is saving up for a decent HDTV... I feel a little silly watching the three blu-ray movies I have on a 32" sdtv, but she does want another TV. Hopefully there will be some good Christmas sales.

Default Lesson learned?

I worked for BJ's in Tonawanda for 9 years (then another 5 in their optical), and I learned that many things are cheaper at BJ's (not all things though). Did my meat shopping, most of my Christmas shopping, books, etc. there. And you'd be surprised how much jewelry shopping got done there for various girlfriends! So, take your mates, show them the jewelry, then go buy an armful of BD's while they pick up their pretty, sparkley, useless rocks wrapped in metal!

Hehe, here's a great wife "work-around" that can probably be used for CE as well. I have this friend who is a gun collector. Whenever he wants to go buy something new, he tells his wife that he's going shooting with me. He leaves the house with an empty gun case, then brings it back home full.

Save those empty boxes

Ha! You guys got it easy. My wife has a Masters Degree in Accounting and is a CPA- and I swear she has more Jewish blood in her than the nation of Israel. Translation: she is awesome with money management and the cost of every toy I want or have is analyzed. She got me my PS3 (which I am currently only using for a Blu-Ray player) for my birthday. We were going to get it at Target so that she could take a credit card out and get the 10% off- but we had to wait until she needed to buy a bunch of gifts for our Neice and Nephews, so that she could maximize the 10%. However, we also had to time that when we were going to buy the groceries for the next couple of weeks to get 10% off of that too. So I just drooled over the PS3 until my wife's accounting planets aligned. Fortunately, the 150 buck deal at Sonystyle came into play so that ended the wait. But now, all I hear is "Why did you buy Blackhawk Down on Blu-Ray? You already own it!" Or "Blu-Ray movies are more expensive than HD-DVD- why did you not get an HD-DVD?"

I have no counter or defense to any of this because she is manages her clothing budget perfectly and gets great deals. All I have to say is Blu-Ray better win, or I am going to have my wife call the head of Sony- we will see who wins that arguement.

Oh well, the things we do for love.
