Default Samsung DOES play DL BD-ROM

Bill Hunt has updated his website with new info. Apparantly it was BD-R that players were having a problem with.

4th paragraph down.

Well that's gotta be a sigh of relief for Sammy owners. Gotta love when the HD DVD fanboys criticized this issue only to see it get thrown back in their face.

still not playing recordable discs is quite an issue.
makes me somewhat angry even, bluray has been in development for so many years now, was supposed to have launched long long ago, yet looking at the state now they are still not ready and just rushing things

and then we have the same thing for DL BD-ROM, in spite of what the title says - i remember some info that Sony is just not able to make their DL prints work on the samsung so thats why they are delaying them so much...

i don't know already which would be better - if it turns out the problem isn't with sony's DL discs nor with the BD-R/RE discs but just some fluke in the samsung player, so atleast when we get the next lot of players things are finally ok (except for the early samsung adopters); or if the player is ok but there's some issues with the media for now.

I could waste a lot of time with 'told you so' type posts...

It is more fun to just watch the mayhem unfold.

I think by the end of the year some of them will be jumping from buildings...

At least it'll be able to play BD-J content. It's not like the HD DVD players don't need firmware upgrades to access improvements either.

Samsung to Finally Upgrade Blu-ray Player
Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 03:20 PM ET
Tags: Hardware, Samsung (all tags)
After weeks of bad press due to reports of numerous product bugs, Samsung has announced it will finally upgrade its first-gen Blu-ray player this October.
Among the improvements scheduled for the company's BD-P1000 Blu-ray deck include a modified setting for its much-criticized noise filter reduction circuit, as well as the capability to play the Java-enabled bonus features that are expected on Blu-ray disc releases due this holiday season, from Fox and other studios.
Samsung also confirmed that all BD-P1000 players, regardless of whether they are upgraded or not, will be compatible with upcoming BD-50 dual-layer, 50GB discs, which are also expected to be released this Fall.
The company will begin making the production line improvements on the BD-P1000 players the last week of October, while owners of existing players can get the upgrade as a firmware update via download or on a disc through Samsung.com.
When we receive further details on availability of the upgrade we'll certainly keep you posted, so stay tuned!

Was only a matter of time until the issues were fixed. Lets hope that everything works out well for the sammy owners. I'll be happy with my pioneer though.
