Got my copy yesterday. Sent on 4 December. Arrived on my doorstep on 24 Dec.

Watched the film last night- such a hoot.

Finally received my copy at long last. Ordered on Nov 21, and it arrived on Dec 31. The film looks stunning in HD, almost like watching the film for the first time. The film itself is a lot of fun, although it’s pretty dark at times, no question.

I call boloney because there will always be the collectors that will buy the steelbook even if there's a standard edition sold simultaneously as well. This just locks it out for many fans who can't afford $50 per movie. There's no reason a standard edition couldn't be released at the same time. They would absolutely still make their money back. In fact, the additional sales for the standard edition would help.

And there's certainly no reason to lie and say there isn't one coming later or "we have no plans currently" to release a standard edition when they almost always do anyways. Lying to your customers is not what I consider good customer service. I like Synapse but I dislike this practice. Be honest and let the fans know what you have planned for a standard release at least. Have some respect for us.

I totally agree! This is bad tact. They should always provide 2 versions if they decide an LE at the time of release. This tells me they just take advantage of the fans that desperately wants it so they could reap more money.

I would think that if they released a standard at first, sold many copies and later released an LE package, maybe some fans would 2nd buy it again
Would still be crappy.

Synapse have been doing this for years now with there steelbooks and they have always released a standard release. I was just making a guess why they do it, but if you really want to know you should email them about it.

Blue Underground has been doing something similar over the past year with their UHD releases. I bought the 4k remaster of Zombie on blu-ray because they did not announce any UHD. Sure enough months later they released it on UHD. I refuse to buy it so I'll settle for the blu-ray but I'm not happy about that. And then they did the same exact thing to me with The New York Ripper. Again, I'm stuck with the blu-ray because I'm not going to buy it again just a few months later.

I got suckered into this practice once. I bought the blu-ray remaster of Suspiria by Synapse, assuming it would never get a 4k release by them. Sure enough they released a UHD, and I did buy that also. But I'm not getting stuck by this practice again. which means I never know if I should skip the initial blu-ray pre-orders and chance it selling out and then there's no UHD, or buy the blu-ray and then have to pass on the UHD when it comes out a few months later. I can't afford to buy all these titles twice, especially so close together.

Shady practice.

After more than 5 weeks, my copy finally arrived. Can't wait to watch it tonight.
First time ever seeing a non bootleg copy.

Watched this last night. What can I say ? An amazing transfer. After all these decades
to finally see the film the way it was intended. Was happy to see they got so many
of the actors to do interviews. Great release. Still not happy about the price or it being
a steelbook but so happy to finally have this in my collection.

I had to read that sneaky edit several times before I realized what you did. I couldn't agree more, though.

I just bought Massacre from DiabolikDVD. It's a blind-buy but judging by what I've read, it'll be right up my alley. The trailer wasn't too shabby, either.

Lol, I wasn't aware the blu-ray didn't suffer from that green issue the UHD did. Sounds like I'm better off with the blu-ray in that case.

Didn’t know that either! Color us fortunate for seeing willieconeway’s post as I felt the same as you and didn’t want to upgrade again so close to buying the remastered Blu-rays.

As for Massacre, I’m also holding out for a standard edition. Have bought the Synapse SteelBooks multiple times only to sell them later when the standard release drops.

Dear Synapse,

Would love to buy Massacre at Central High, even willing to drop $50 on it, but I have no interest in a steelbook. Release the standard edition already.

If you're willing to spend $50 on the film alone, what difference does the packaging make? Take the disc out of the steelbook and stick it in a plain blue case if you hate it that much.

Maybe he'd actually like some official art for that standard case? Not everybody has the means to print covers, or wants to.

I dislike practices like that, and if a label has a history of doing that in a short time frame, I'll either wait and see or just download the current version and buy the later one. I want to support the labels but things get ridiculous. I have copies of movies I haven't had a chance to open and watch yet and then the same label announces a better version.

Edit: having written that, finding new and better elements and re releasing it for that reason at any time is fine. In the case of Synapse, they did the RAW 4k scan that will be used for both versions. The said they did Massacre in Central High in 2K, so that is probably OK to buy without worrying about another release in a short while.

Because I don’t like the packaging? It’s almost as if personal preference influences purchasing decisions.

I also swap all the movies out of the blue cases for clear. Thank you for your concern about my personal preferences, though.

Hopefully a standard edition is in the works. This is way overpriced. I've paid $50 for a single movie exactly once: Synapse's Suspiria steelbook. Unlikely to happen again unless it's something major like Dawn of the Dead.

I’m also waiting for the standard edition like I did for all the other ones that got steels first.
