Default Missing: Accent. If found....

please contact "Storm" at:

1407 Graymalkin Lane, Salem Center
Westchester County, New York

I'm re-watching the Xmen Trilogy and I noticed the first time that Storm speaks in X2 her accent (or lack there of) is nothing like the first movie. Holy Kevin Costner! Did someone just decide to scrap this for the 2nd and 3rd movies?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Every time she spoke I found myself trying really hard to hear the accent. It up and vanished like a fart in the wind.

It wasn't great, but it was THERE. I can't even tell you what kind of accent it was supposed to be, but starting w/ X2 Storm sounds exactly like the girl in Swordfish, Catwoman, and Monster's Ball.

I agree and am glad others noticed and cared. I think that she kind of cared about her character in the first one becuase she wasn't the huge star she is today. Then she became famous and decided 'I'll just be myself in this one'.

Plausible explanation: she had been in America long enough that she could adopt the American accent... I guess.

I just don't like that she demanded a larger role (not to mention a movie of her own) but she did not care enough about the character to act like Storm.

Accents fade with time and people often pick up new accents.

In this case, it was probably just a case of her being relatively poor with the accent to begin with, so she ended up dropping it as her speaking part grew in the sequels. It is easily explainable though, so it doesn't bother me.

I mean, does the film continuity even establish a reason for her to have an accent anyway? Not a big deal, folks. It's not like they went out of their way to point out and establish a history of her having grown up in Africa or something.

Can someone please explain her line "Do you want to know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?" "Same as everything else."

This had to be one of the dumbest lines ever. Went completely over my head. Everyone I know was also like "Huh?"

she purposely decided to drop the accent for X2 and 3

i remember reading that in an article

it may even be in the X2 trvia on imdb

edit: it was on X-men's imdb trivia not X2

heres what it says:
Quote:
In this movie, Halle Berry had the African Accent that Storm had in the comic books; but in X2 (2003), she decided not to use the accent.
there are some pretty interesting/funny trivia facts for the first two x-men movie (havent read the third movie's trivia yet) like:

Quote:
On "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1992), Hugh Jackman related a story about something that happened during the filming of the Weapon X flashback scene: while he was filming the corridor run (in which he is nude and backlit), he turned the corner and saw the female cast members, including James Marsden's mother, waiting for him, hooting and waving dollar bills.

forget the accent, Halle Berry was a horrible choice for Storm. Storm is one of the strongest personalities in the X Men, she's more like a young Angela Bassett.

Halle Berry usually comes across as vulnerable and soft.
