wow i just saw this movie and it was great i recommend this movie wow great story and i really liked the characters you guys have to buy it or rent it i just want to ask about the story towards the end it was a bit confusion about the guy who got on there ship who was burned what was his deal ?

i like how you can type this really really long sentence without using any form of punctuation whatsoever its just great and i hope youll never stop doing this because it makes things so readable for the viewers and must save a lot of effort using that nasty shift key or those annoying punctuation keys dont you think so too?

[Show spoiler] It was the captain of the Icarus I. He went a little loopy after becoming obsessed with the raw power of the sun (like Searle had started doing). Even the Captain of Icarus II wanted to experience the full power of the sun as he died, so he turned around to face it head-on.

Being in space alone for years, with just him and the Sun, Icarus I captain believed he was communicating with God, and he tried to stop the Icarus II from completing the mission, because We - as humans - did not have the right to try to reignite the sun if that was God's way of ending us as a species.

Great movie, somewhat unknown but great, the makings of a cult classic.

It's like a demo movie to show the capabilities of blu-ray and hi-def sound.

glad you found a good horror blu! I'm a huge fan of that one as well. the ending came out of nowhere...also, try to use spoiler tages for stuff like that (above), so u don't piss anyone off. to answer your question though...if i remember correctly, he was responsible for getting the ship off course by miscalculating the route or something..

Yeah, that's basically it, he realized just how huge the screw-up was and knew that with one less person, there's be more air for others. How would YOU like watching your mission fail, knowing it was all your fault - bringing about the end of the human race - and follow it through to the end? He couldn't take it - so he offed himself

I thought

[Show spoiler]the captain of the Icarus I killed him. (They established missing surgical tools from the drawer.) My take was that he killed him and set his body like that to make it look like a suicide, just as he posed Michelle Yeoh's character after killing her with the other surgical tool. It's open to interpretation, but I always took it as a disguised murder rather than a suicide

[Show spoiler]His original mistake was forgetting to change the angle of the mirrors on the shield when he put in the new course. The mirrors had to track the sun perfectly to deflect the light.That mistake fries 4 mirrors, causes Kappa and the Captain to go out and fix it, and the Captain gets fried- along with the greenhouse.

And.....there are quite a few lengthy threads already on this movie. But, you're young and I didn't listen to anyone when I was your age anyway.

I could be wrong But I think he did it BEFORE they rendezvoused, which means he couldn't have done it. And why would he make one look one way, but sneak up behind the other.

Just watched this last night for the 2nd time - i HIGHLY recommend anyone pick this up. The visuals are amazing - some of the best CGI I've seen lately, they look amazing on a good TV. The sun! The spaceship! The flames! The story, the musical score, the characters - I found them all great, and I love Danny Boyle's visual style, and the metaphor of madness he draws in the movie.

I also found the story in the last act to be a little confusing, but that was resolved a lot when I watched it for the second time last night. Probably my favorite "home theater-ey" film in my collection. Can't wait til Slumdog comes in the mail, too.
