All,
I have had the Sony 700 pretty much since it came out and have a couple pet peeves with it: 1. Having to switch Dolby Vision on/off when I watch 3D (played via external projector) 2. Shuts off every 15 - 20 minutes when I watch 3D disc (only happens when I play 3D to my projector, not when I watch 4K directly on my 70" flatscreen) 3. Seems flimsy 4. No clock (how long the movie has been playing) screen Looking to upgrade to a new player and the Panasonic UB 820 seems to be my next choice. As a bonus, looks like a few places have it on sale now. Drawing on the power of the forum: 1. Go with the Panasonic UB 820 2. Go with something else (what do you recommend) 3. Wait until XXXX player comes out I would like to keep budget around $500 but could make argument for more if something really can't be beat. Thank you Last edited by rexinnih; 02-01-2021 at 07:52 PM. |

So the shut off is mid play? Or when paused? The Panasonic will shut down when now playing with powersave.
The 820 is a good player though. I can't reall say there is a better alternative, unless you are wanting to guinea pig and say try that new Tascam player... |

Might take a look at that Tascam. Quick look at Amazon showed it looks like it's rack mounted but that may be one version. |

The best reason to get the Panny is the HD Optimiser. As far as "shutting down"..that's if it doesn't detect usage after X period of time. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=305030 2. Go with something else (what do you recommend) There aren't many options other than Panny, Sony or LG. Panny is the best of the bunch. You could go used for a Pioneer or OPPO, but it would be at a premium price. 3. Wait until XXXX player comes out: There are no announcements of new players other than the Tascam. The Tascam is a professional grade player, so it only comes with rack ears (I assume you can take them off). https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=334210 |

is there any mod chip(external) or hack that can be used on the Panny or the Tascam for universal BR/dvd playback? I bought one for my oppo long time ago cant remember where. Did Pioneer ever release a 4k UHD player here in the states?

We have owner's threads dedciated to each player (the Tascam hasn't been released yet, so the likely that a mod has been created (if ever) seems slim. I bought one for my oppo long time ago cant remember where. I would assume ebay...I assume you are referring to the external mod that was regularly available/used here and AVS members. Did Pioneer ever release a 4k UHD player here in the states? Again, (on this same page) is an owner's thread for the Pioneer players. As of right now, there aren't any available in primary retailer channels. And, there is no word if they will produce and release more of the last model or just drop UHD...but all that info is in the owner's thread. |
