United Kingdom Kingdom of Heaven question?

I have Kingdom of Heaven on bluray, it was the first bluray film i purchased. And I must say I was impressed with the quality. Even in MPEG2, it looks brilliant! My question is, will this be re-released in a higher codec? And if they did it in MPEG4 AVC would it fit on one disc? As you know its quite a long film. Im not sure if this would improve the film by much. But most films I have seen in a higher codec look even better!

Why bother re-releasing it if it's already a high quality disc?

I think that was the 2nd. Blu-ray I bought and watched it several times already. I really enjoyed it and I thought the quality was good enough. I certainly wouldn't be double-dipping on a new release using another codec.

There's a French version that not only has a differnent codec, but extras included. Unfortunately, it's reported to not look as good as the UK/US MPEG-2 release.

The reason why i would like a better codec for Kingdom of heaven is because in general I have found them to be much better in quality then the MPEG2 versions. I do think the quality of the current uk kingdom of heaven codec is quite good. If a better codec does arrise and the reviews are good then i will trade in the current one for it

I have the US MPEG2 and French VC-1, and they both look very nice and very similar.

If anyone wants my French VC-1 copy with all the extras (7 hours) let me know. I'm not big on extras, someone may appreciate that disc more than me.

On eBay I get to see two versions of "Kingdom Of Heaven":

Not that I am hoping that miraculously there are some extras from 4-disc DVD set, but I am wondering whether there is any difference between them other than the cover itself. Anyone?

I've never seen the second cover on blu-ray anywhere (it looks like the cover from the 2 disc DVD) only the first one. So the lighter is a re-release or a new cover version same disc. Shame the extras from the 4 disc Definitive steelbook and the digipak have only turned up on the French release. But all BD's have the overture and intermission titlecards removed.

I think this new artwork is just a reprint as the old one is 4 years old and very poor at that with those horrible non-labels which look like labels shouting the fact it'll play on a PS3 -but it's actually printed on the ****ing artwork.

Barcode seems to be the same too 5039036029582.

I have the 4 disc Steelbook DVD so never bothered that the UK Blu-ray disc was extras-less although I was tempted with the French release as it was €10 for quite sometime.

I have that exact steelbook, with a bloody scratch on it (which I didn't notice until I unwrapped it) a couple of weeks later ASDA had the original 4 disc version (like the LOTR EE's) digipak for a £5 but I didn't have the heart to double-dip.

Strange I couldn't get through the theatrical cut (on DVD) of KOH but the Director's Cut was excellent.

Was just looking at this and the updated release is OOP yet the old one is still in print?

Why on Earth was there a new version if it was going to go OOP before the old one? lol

I'm still in two minds about picking up the Blu-ray of this film. I've got the dvd (theatrical) version and have watched it once and just thought it was very average. However I've heard the director's cut is a lot better so may get it if I see it cheap enough somewhere. Is it really that much better than the theatrical cut? It's not a movie I particularly want to double-dip with so am hesitant.

I was honestly bored to tears with the theatrical cut and didn't even watch all of it, the extended cut though was a breath of fresh air it's pacing was better and it was a totally different film. The characters are deeper and the plot fits together better. I think if the director's cut had been released theatrically people would hold the film in such a higher regard than it's shorter release.

Check out the differences at Movie~Censorship.com.

I agree with the above poster! I think the Directors Cut is one of Ridley Scott's best movies and it's just a fantastic film all the way! I can't believe FOX butchered it so much into the mess that was the Theatrical Cut... That was a piece of shit!

Now, when is a proper Blu Ray release coming out? There are hours of extras they need to bring over before i double dip!

I won't buy the Blu-Ray until they re-release it with the cascade of extras that were on the DVD - including the overture and intermission, which gave the movie the feel of an authentic old-school 'roadshow' cienmatic presentation.
