I am a bit late to the party as well -- no screeners were sent, and the release date discrepancies put this off my radar until recently. I'm excited to be getting a copy on Friday and hope to have a full review up sometime early next week!

Of the episodes I have seen so far the picture quality is very good especially for an old animated series. I especially like how the backgrounds just pop. Keep in mind my TV is a 720.

Got this a day earlier than expected and wanted to share my review which includes 30 screenshots. What better time to hit "upload" than Saturday morning?

Doesn't Disney have the rights?

Disney doesn't release their animated TV shows on BD, with only one exception (Gravity Falls). And that was a very special case. If Disney has it, it probably won't ever get a BD release.

What is their reasoning behind that strategy?

Disney definitely has it, so it's rather doubtful it'll ever get a physical Blu-ray release. I own the original BCI DVD boxset (the Best Buy exclusive variant) from 2006.

The only thing I can possibly foresee is a Disney Movie Club exclusive, if they started doing multi-disc TV releases... or even separate "volumes" of shows.

Even before Disney+ launched, it was clear Disney's long-term strategy was to go streaming-only for such series.

Case in point, all the Marvel animated series they own. They stopped putting out DVD releases of any of those shows, either new or old, back in 2013. There's even a few Marvel animated movies that never made it to disc and have only ever been streaming-only.

If Disney isn't going to put out physical media releases of animated series featuring Marvel characters, Dungeons & Dragons sadly stands no chance. It's a shame, but that ship sailed long ago.

Off-topic, but one Disney series I would have liked to have seen receive a nice BD set was Tron: Uprising, but it wasn't to be.

Lords of light! If you never got around to buying this set, now is the time. Amazon has it as part of their Black Friday event for $14.49! Not sure if I’ve seen it lower. Buy it now or I’m sending Ookla over to take care of things.
