As if it's just entirely ridiculous to even suggest casting a black guy as the character because the original source character was not black.

And so I gave two examples of source material that the race of the characters (one the main title role) was changed from white to black.

Not to be a buzzkill, but, Tommy Lee Jones randomly becoming Harvey Dent once he becomes bad? And you can't even argue that's it's because the franchise had gone downhill; it was a direct sequel!

On point, however, part of me also cannot see James Bond as being black, simply because I've seen 22 movies where he's been white. However, I'm sure that when M because she, there was a lot of upheaval. I have to give credit to the writers for Pierce Brosnan's line in Goldeneye to introduce her, though...

I sldo have to admit that my favourite part of the franchise, though, was turning Felix from a redneck to his current role of being, through the last 2 films, the best, most reliable "friend" James Bond has been able to rely on. And hey, what do you know, he happens to be black, too. Great revival of the role, if you ask me.

You would be right, if it was the first movie, it might be Ok. However, since there has already been 20 something films with a british, white Bond, it is not Ok. So yes it is entirely ridiculous to even suggest casting a black guy as the character.

Yea, that happens all the time, but it never goes the other way.

Part of me wants to laugh at this... "Historically black roles"? But, instead of laughing, I will simply try to re-direct people to the topic at hand, which is about a black Bond. Remember, several articles and comments mentioned that the world was ready for a black Bond; let's debate whether or not that's true now, not debate moot points about actors switching roles, whether or not they are of the same race.

Will Smith is a great actor. I enjoy watching his movies. I'm sure if he wants to play a secret agent in a movie, he can do it. James Bond....nah. As an aside to other posts, Harvey Dent was white in Batman: TAS. It's actually brought up on one of the dvd commentaries I believe. I never thought of Felix Leiter as a redneck. Jack Lord was great as Felix Leiter in Dr. No...very cool.

Nope, Harvey was voiced by Richard Moll, a white actor, but he was definitely drawn black.



Also Destro in the G.I. Joe cartoon was voiced by a black actor and the character is a Scotsman.

DVDave, I have the series...listened to the commentaries and Harvey is white. If they had made Harvey black or Asian or Hispanic...doesn't matter to me. As for Bond, I don't think it would make the earth go off its axis if Bond was black, Asian, Hispanic, etc.

Darnit, I was thinking of, Jack Wade, in the Brosnan Bonds. I guess I need to re-visit my later Bonds, I seem to have gotten far too familiar with the early ones!
