If there is a steelbook version of this set I will be ecstatic. Im very interested to see how 5-8 will look, because on the Shout set even those movies looked better than on previously releases.

The new set is a 6 disc set with only the first 4 remastered, so it will probably be the 5-8 from the old Paramount sets. Those 4 didn't even get remastered for the Shout set, just got their own respective discs.

Is it sad that my first thought was how nice it'd be to put my 6-disc Phantasm set in a red case?

If press release stuff is to be believed, the first 4 films will be the new 4K scans from the Scream boxset. They'll look better, but you'll lose the uncut part 1 as only the theater cut disc will be included. 5-8 will be the same old 2 movies on one disc all the other releases (besides the Scream box) are.

One correction. The Shout release has a 4K scan for Part 5. The Paramount does not. No 3D for Part 3 mentioned for the Parampunt release either. Not to mention all the extras that are on Shouts edition

There wasn't a 4K scan for 5, only 1-4.

This set is missing the two best entries in the series, Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X.

6 did get color-corrected, but I doubt that will carry over to this new short set.

Good point. That's really the only incentive to me to buy this set.

The only incentive I have to buy this set is if 5-8 look as good as they do on the Shout set. And in the case of 7 and 8 that could prove to be difficult. I need to be able to fit the Paramount 8 in my modified Friday the 13th steelbook.

How come it looks like they are releasing two different sets - one with a red cover, and one with a blue cover?

Also, how come they keep releasing only the first 8 films in a collection (other then the recent Shout release)? What is it about the last two movies that they keep getting left out? Are they owned by different studios?

Blue cover is a Steelbook. Red cover isn't.

Has anyone been able to find this in-store (Best Buy, Walmart, Target?)

I checked Walmart in-store this morning and they didn't have it. And all of the Target and Best Buy locations near me show that it's only available for shipping.

So it appears that this disc will contain ONLY the theatrical version on disc (albeit with the new 4K transfer) while containing a digital code for the unrated version (same for the 8-film set).
Picked this up today out of curiosity. Despite being advertised as being the Theatrical cut, it is actually the Unrated cut. The back of the Blu-ray says it's the theatrical, but it's wrong. Appears to be the same transfer as the Scream Factory release. No mono track. Only 5.1.

Found an unboxing video. Its true: no part 3 true 3d. Paramount is truly loathsome.

I don't see why anyone would pay $60 for this when the SF set can be had for $100, or the older 8 movie set can still be found for 20 or less.

Yeah. Especially if Parts 5-8 end up being the same discs from previous sets. If this set had true 3d on it and parts 5-8 were brand new discs with carefully done encodes then I could totally see paying $60 for it if you hate the New Line Movies.
