The second revision will be this model which brings an OLED screen, a better kickstand, and better audio. ALL of which is for the betterment of the mobile experience. As strictly a home console gamer, I feel a bit slighted. Where's OUR improvements? When is Nintendo going to throw us home console gamers a bone and do something to benefit us?
In reality, that’s what I hope a Switch Pro is, a console. Even if it’s 4K/120 thanks to heavy use of DLSS, I want that NVIDIA chip to have all the power and cooling it needs, and have external storage support (or better internal storage) so we aren’t stuck with expensive microSD cards.
I don’t think Nintendo cares though, a console would mean they are competing w/ Sony and MS. I think they like their “blue ocean” strategy.

I don't buy the "blue ocean" theory. Nintendo sells videogames and machines that play those videogames. They ARE in competition with Sony and MS, no matter how much they want to say they're not. Maybe they're going after a slightly younger age demographic, but even there I still say they're in competition. My kids are ten and six. But they play as much, if not more PlayStation than they do Nintendo. About the only Switch game they play is Mario Kart. Other than that, they would just assume play Everybody's Golf over Mario Golf or Bugsnax over Pokémon. My oldest is a Rayman Legends master and he still plays it. He'd rather play that over Donkey Kong Tropical freeze or Mario 3D World. They both also loved Astrobot, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart. My point is Sony is competing for those "Mario" dollars too.

Yeah I know. But I was only holding out because I thought it was coming soon. I need to get a Switch. That's why I'm in a decision bind. Because we don't know if it's coming soon anymore.

It's definitely not coming this year. So if you need a Switch in 2021, you're not gonna wanna wait much longer.

Can’t argue with that, and from that perspective I think @ThomasFMaher got it right.

Honestly I feel like they are targeting an older demographic, the one willing to let nostalgia lead their purchase decisions. Just so happens a lot of them have kids who are at the right age to get hooked as well.

I think there are 6 Switches and 1 PS4 between the 8 kids in my family between 5 and 15.

I've heard some things about that being the case. This seems to have more to do with the availability of parts making the new OLED version easier to manufacture.

Play the Switch almost always in docked mode, so really don’t need this new model. Did the only reasonable thing. Pre-Ordered immediately…

I think Nintendo is right, they are not directly competing with XBox and/or PlayStation anymore, because they established the Switch as the second console one needs to buy besides one of the former two. I know many people, who have a PS4/PS5 AND a Switch or a XBox AND a Switch. But not many have a PlayStation and a XBox, because normally you go for one or the other. I think and hope Nintendo sticks with the Switch philosophy regarding their next console. It’s the perfect match for them.

Valve announcing this on the day of OLED Switch pre orders is def not a coincidence. https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/15/2...ng-handheld-pc
