Question Skype - Anyone Use It Regularly?

I have an iPhone 3G and have the Skype app as well. I am interested in possibly getting Skype for making calls to landlines and such. Anyone have experience in this? Decent quality? Cost effective?

I had Vonage for years and got rid of them a while back because the service went to crap and customer service moved to India and they never listened to me. Plus the pricing just kept getting higher. Then you had all those features that I hardly ever used. Would rather have had good quality service instead.

So, is Skype worth it or am I pissing my money away? Anyone know if there is a trial out there where I can make a couple of calls and try it out?

Thanks!

As long as your internet works, Skype is a great alternative.
I use it on my iPhone 3G and it is flawless with Skype to Skype calls, sounds better than ATT.

We use Skype on a semi-regular basis to call from Europe to a Japanese landline. The quality fluctuates ... there are times when we have a very good connection but there are times where there's a lag on one or either side, or the audio is distorted.

When we call from Skype to Skype to Japan, I don't have that issue, which makes me think the problem lies in the conversion from digital to analog signal from Skype's servers.

Anyway, for approximately the same price, we get a better connection quality calling landlines with specialized telephone cards, like those of IDT Connect.

Just my 2 cents ...

Sounds like it's a 50/50 shot. Hmm. I am trying to avoid a land line as I don't use the phone much and it would be a waste. However, I don't have unlimited minutes on the mobile so that would rack it up quick. Skype seemed like a good alternative for when I am at home and have to make many calls at a time.
