Default Just a quick question on my setup

I was hoping I could make my home theatre look better. It looks great right now but, im wondering if changing the wires out for some better ones would matter? I currently have everything hooked up with cheap regular hdmi cables. For not having to much to spend the
sound quality sounds good but I don't know any better. What would be some better cables, and Speakers for a man that doesnt want to spend to much more. Thanks in advance and much appreciated. Also Im not to great with the Home theatre gig, but I read reviews online and make a purchase, so I guess im asking, how does mine look so far???

You dont need to spend more than 10 dollars on an HDMI cable. Cables from Monoprice will do the trick.

Well directv is hooked up with the one that came with the box right to the receiver. PS3 is hooked up to the receiver with one that i bought in a ps3 combo pack, its a better quality one, I got 2 ps3 controller rechargers, an intercooler, and this hdmi cable. Then from the receiver to the tv I bought a $20 hdmi cable from radio shack.

Also how are my speakers

About the only thing you gain by spending a heap of cash on "brand name" HDMI cables is build quality. Keeping in mind that the data transferred through them is digital, it is less prone to being affected by external interference.

Many people in-the-know on the subject of home theater will agree that build quality gains are not necessarily worth paying $60, $100 or $150+ for a single HDMI cable. It all depends on how each person likes to spend money, that's all. Bargain HDMI cables will perform excellently with your system.

Just keep the HDMI cables you have. They're plenty good.

BTW, I see you have an Onkyo 706. That's a very good receiver, and you are on a good track, receiver-wise.

Among several brands, some entry-level Polk Audio speakers will be a good candidate for a speaker upgrade. You can get a pair of Polk Monitor 60 tower speakers for main fronts, 2 or 4 Monitor 30 speakers (for either a 5.1 or 7.1 channel setup), and a CS10 center channel speaker for less than $600, shipped, from Newegg.com. There are several great subwoofers out there for less than $300 from various manufacturers.

Upgrading your speakers will pay the largest dividends to improving the audio on your setup. You already have a more-than-capable receiver.

Yah the wife let me spend some tax refund money on what i wanted so I bought the receiver. Is my display good though? Also would there be any other cheaper options for a 5.1 speaker setup without spending to much

Are you using the speakers from the Yamaha YHT-580BL -HTiB-?
We have a simliar setup, we have the same HDTV, I have the Onkyo 805 instead of the 705.

I love my setup, you can see it in the gallery. like yourself I am looking for a nice set of speakers, but it's for my bedroom.

If you do decide to go the seperate speaker route, and most members here will say yes to get seperate speakers, IMO, you would want to start with a set of tower speakers as your fronts, then get a center, followed by a sub and lastly you could probably keep your speakers from your HTiB as your surrounds, or get a new set of surrounds last if you want new ones. It all depends on your budget and ears as to what to get and which brand to purchase.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, now Im hoping that someone can push me towards the right direction, on a Great sub, Front speakers, and also the center channel speaker. Ill probally buy each seperate, starting with the Front Left and Right Speakers. THen later on ill get the center channel, and then the sub and so on. Also should I look into biamping? or leave that alone

What kind of budget are you working with? Depending on what you're willing/able to spend, and what you want, you may be able to get more than just a pair of mains at one time.

Well If I do everything individually, I could probablly spend roughly $100-200 on fronts. $50-150 on center, and $100-250 on Sub, and then worry about the rears lastly. So roughly under $500 would be insanely awesome. Or ill just have to smoke some pineapple express and deal with the yamahas

I was just throwing an option out there. Generally companies like Onkyo and Yamaha are known for making really good receivers, but their speakers, not so much. Energy, on the other hand, is known for making really good speakers, and has a great reputation.

As far as for lossless audio, in the price range you're looking at, you probably won't find much better.

So I would be able to hear a huge difference in these compared to the yamahas i have now
