Default Just got my new sub! Quick question about lfe setup.

Well I was at best buy getting my new computer and it was a lil busy so I took a wLk to HT to see if they had anything worth trying out for 28-29 days

well the sub I was looking at was the klipsch sub 12 which originally was 474.99 but was clearenced for the new line which brought it down to 307.00 So I asked the girl if I could get a discount on a floor model. She said sure 10%. Soi ended up picking it up for $275. So that made me a lil happier. Hopefully it performs now.

Ok so it has the typical red and white RCA inputs but the white also says "lfe" under "L" so does that mean since my pioneer 819 has a dedicated sub output that I only have to run my single rg6 cable I got from monoprice to the white input? WithOUT the y adapter?

Just wondering cuz I thought I remember ppl saying that you gained a lil bit of volume by plugging in both. But maybe that was just for standard RCA s without lfe/..???

A single sub cable should be sufficient. On subwoofers that have a dedicated LFE input, when you connect a cable to that input from the LFE output of the receiver, that bypasses the internal crossover on the back of the subwoofer. Just to be on the safe side, turn the crossover on the back of the sub all the way up.

Instead of stressing unnecessarily, find an amp for around $100 or less from Parts Express or Ebay and replace the amp for the AA sub. That amp was defective from day one. Alternatively, pay the shipping and get the subwoofer replaced. It is bad luck on your part. I have wasted lots of money over the years over defective or useless products. Fortunately, I have had the 12" AA sub the longest and have had no issues so far. I have replaced the driver on that sub three times just to do something crazy. Currently, I have a 12" Dayton Quatro driver in it.

Thanks bd. On the ball as usual!

Just to clarify. Don't use the y adapter and turnthe crossover on the sub all the way up? ( I think it's 120hz )

Already with just crap positioning in my room the klipsch plays much smoother and lower, but I won't bash the aa at all cuz if you remember I hooked it up to my car amp ( class d Memphis which is 300 rms @ 4 ohms ) and the sub sounded great. So what are you thinking? Just get a bash amp? I think I saw a 240 watt rms amp on there a while back. I really want this aa to work and as you and everyone else who saw how bummed I was , I knew somejing was wrong from the beginning and it wasn't exactly yhe equiptment I was mad at it was there service.

So. I still trust your good judgement and I know his stuff is your second life style lol, so just tell me what to order and itsdone

I bought the Dayton 240 amp and think it awesome! I just got through watching Transformers 2 on Bluray and the last 45 minutes is non stop LFE and my ears are TIRED! I put the AA sub back in the living room to run dual subs with my PA sub and the whole house was shaking for 45 minutes. It was awesome!!!

Here's the page where I modified my HD Sub12 with the Dayton 240 from Parts Express.

What do you think of the Quatro driver? I'm super happy with the AA driver!

Thanks dune! I'll check it out as soon as I get my new computer hooked up

Got the klipsch behind the tv now ( not fun Fyi ) and ready for a lil lfe.

Be back in a few. It's not gonna be the greatest sound since the only thing I had to put behind m tv as a riser was one of those green plastic rubbermaid bins. Might piss of the neighbors cuttin up mdf at 11:30. So I'll just wait on that

I used the the ED driver that was in the AA in the new DIY subwoofer that I built. I had a Dayton Quatro driver that I wasn't using. I decided to put that in the AA subwoofer as the original AA driver is somewhere in the land of the unkown.

I moved the AA to my two-channel room as the cherry finish matches the two vintage Polk speakers better. I listened to the new driver briefly as I have been busy with my two new DIY subwoofers. It sounded good, but I will test it more in a couple of days.

MJ,

These are some plate amplifiers for you. Alternatively, bite the bullet and pay for shipping and get a new AA subwoofer.

Wow. That's a few links there bd . I'll bite. I want to hear the aa sub with a good amp. As soon asni saw the amp externally before I even hooked it up I knew it was weak. And very cheap. I'm gonna send both the amp and the sub and request brand new for both. It's only 7 bucks extra to ship the amp too then I'll just get another plate amp. Are all plate amps the same size , soot will fit. Into the flush mount on the aa enclosure?

Also. Wow... That's all I can say. I just watched transformers 1 from the Ironside sweep to the end. I finally know what lfe is now. So deep and full sounding. The aa is loud by comparison but is at a much higher frequency and as soon as the low end kicks in it's done. No comparison.

I'm very pleased with this. And hopefully the aa will compliment it well behind my couch.

Now I just have to tweak my receiver a bit and get the lfe and crossovers set

The plate amps are not the same size. The sizes are listed on their respective web sites. The 240 watt amplifier from Parts Express is approximately the same size. Duneaholic uses that one on his AA sub. You may have to slightly modify the opening on the back of the sub.

The Dayton 240 amp was bigger and I had to cut out a bigger opening but it wasn't hard to do. Most amps have mounting dimensions in the specs section.

I was curious,so your AA sub was shipped with a bad amp?I'll admit mine doesnt hit super hard, but it moves some decent air,it sounded like the post above said the amp was weak,i'm hoping thats not the case for everybody . I'm glad yours sounds better though.

Yeah it was shipped with a bad amp. I could never get it to sound right. I made a long attempt to get it to sound right and by that time the time for filling out the warranty card had expired(14 days) and they wouldn't do anything for me. I then put a Dayton 240 amp in it and now it thumps really good! I am extremely pleased with it and Parts Express awesome customer service.
