I had this (still have it) on Laserdisc, never got around to buy the DVD. Such a great little movie.

I figured they used the same master as the HD DVD which was pretty horrid. Not even lossless audio of James Horner's emotional score can save this disc if the picture quality is as bad as I think.

That's a damn shame...this is the best sports movie ever made. If it's that bad, I'll hang onto my dvd.

Sounds like the HD DVD version. Pretty inconsistent transfer from what I recall and one that I wish I would have rented and not bought at the time.

Great movie though, but I would recommend waiting for a sale.

High Def Disc News has a review up. They also pretty much say the PQ and AQ sucks. Universal really needs to remaster or perhaps restore this film. Both DVD versions looked awful also. I'll wait and maybe get it when Fry's has it for about $10.00.

Looks like Universal's untarnished record may be over with FIELD OF DREAMS.

While they have been stellar so far with BD releases, I can tell you they had several clunkers on HD DVD so far as video quality. I hope they make the effort to remaster these titles before BD release.

Has anybody noticed that this flick has probably the worst box art ever? I mean, who stands like that? I think it's been exactly the same for 20 years and nobody has ever seemed to noticed how bad it is.

I thought Universal was supposed to optimize their HD-DVD titles for Blu-Ray? Guess not, we get HD-DVD ports instead. I'm glad I read these reviews, they saved me $20.

It's a bad source, not necessarily a bad transfer. They need a new master before this will ever look good on Blu-ray, and I'm not sure this film really warrants one.

I thought the picture quality of Field of Dreams on HD DVD was ok. I meen it was alot better then the one that I had on DVD.That one was not even anamorphic. No never did buy The special edition DVD version.

I do agree that Field Of Dreams needs a new remastering, but I definitely disagree on whether or not it warrants one. It is a very good film and critically acclaimed. It actually ages pretty well because it is such a good story.

Right, but I meant it more in financial terms. Yeah it's a great movie, but it's not something that should ever be a big seller in high-definition.

I'm not sure what the sales figures reflect, but this film is regarded as a classic. I'm sure down the road when they will do an upgrade to the master when the BD market matures.
