Default Wallace And Gromit - A Matter Of Loaf And Death

I was recently in London and picked up a copy of the Wallace And Gromit - A Matter Of Loaf And Death Blu-Ray. I had read that it was region free and playable in the US. When I got home to NY and tried to play it. All I got was the opening warning screen and the 2 Entertain Video opening logo video. The screen then just went blank and the player actually froze up on me. I had to unplug it and plug it back in. I have a Sony BD350 Blu-Ray player. Does anyone else have some experience with the Wallace and Gromit disc here in the US? Does it play for you? Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!

I believe the disc is region-free, but the video is 1080i50. The PS3 won't play 1080i50 content, and your Sony BD player may be the same.

It's region free, but it's encoded in 1080i/50, and most US players and TVs can't handle anything that's encoded in 50 hz (a PAL standard). Some BD players can handle it, and some TVs, but it's tough to even find out this information as no companies advertise PAL compatibility - it is merely included because the chipset or whatever is common between that company's US and European models.

So to play this disc, you'd either need a player that could decode the 50 hz signal and convert it into 60 hz for your TV, or you'd need both a BD player and a TV that could handle a 50 hz signal. Or just get a BD-ROM drive for your computer, as this kind of stuff is trivial in that environment.

Try one of these players, which unlike the Sony models, correctly support the Blu-ray specs:
