Exclamation 6.1 Setup

Ok i have searched and searched and cant really find anything on it. I am looking at getting another RS-52 and turning my system to a 6.1. I have a large living room but with how it is set up i wont be able to correctly set up a 7.1 at this point in time. What i was wanting to know if there is any tips or anything i need to know with setting up a 6.1 speaker placement and how it sounds, Things like this. Any help would be appreciated. From what little i can find i guess on a 6.1 set up the sixth speaker will go inbetween my right and left rear?

Yes the new speaker is supposed to be centered on the back wall, and 2-3 feet above ear level. You'll have to check your receiver's manual to see which surround back channel to hook it up to, and then re-run your auto setup.

Hi there! Don't you mean that the sixth speaker would go in between your right and left side speakers (not "right and left rear")? See the article below and click on the diagram for 6.1 speaker placement.

Well how my RS-52 are set up they are on the wall the rear of the sitting area. if you were in the sitting area they would not be at lets say a 90 degree angle more like a 110 degree angle behind us . so they are not on the side walls at all. i will post a pic here shortly

Well, I think your current setup is wrong! Just MHO but I think my conclusion is supported by comments in the Klipsch forum. They do cover the placement of RS-52's in a 5.1/7.1 setup so I think your side surround speakers should be placed at 90 degree angles to where you sit. Here's the Klipsch discussion thread http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/90674.aspx Hope this helps!! And that link I gave you before still holds basically true regarding a 6.1 setup but how you do things is entirely up to you.

Yes, a 6th speaker, Rear Center, should be directly behind your main seating position, which should technically also be right at the midpoint of your two other L/R rears, and, also, above your seating position as well, is preferable, aimed down to your ears.

Talking

First thing is i am lowering these speakers they are to high but this is what i have, it is an impossiblilty to put the speakers on the side due to the window on the side with a door rifht next to it so to put them on the side i would have to dang near put them at the front of the room wich would be wrong as well. So with what i have to deal with what is the opion now and would the 6.1 be worth it? also you cant tell but the couch is about 2.5-3 foot out away from the wall.
p.s. the duck mount isd oviously going to have to be moved for the 6.1

Clapton, I use a 6.1 system cause I too cannot fit a 7.1 into my home, I have the left and right surrounds behind me but off to the sides some, but not a lot, and the rear surround is between where my wife and I sit in the rocker recliners. I do not find that I have an issue where they sit and that the sound is encompassing the seating and theatre area quite nicely. The Side Surrounds are about 120-130 degrees behind me.

My dad also uses a 6.1 configuration with in-wall speakers and one in ceiling speaker, the 6th speaker is pretty much directly overhead and the right and left surrounds are about 130-150 degrees behind and his system is awesome too. As long as you find the right placement for your speakers that fits your room acoustics and is suitable for your seating area too, then I don't think you should worry if you are meeting the ideal situation.

The only thing is that they are Bi-pole speakers correct??? that you may need to play with a little more as opposed to direct firing. Good luck.

So after reading what will i get more benefit out of going 6.1 or bi-amping my fronts since my AVR will allow it? Any one biamped or have a 6.1 similar to my set up
I have read on biamping on this site but still don't have the full understanding, and it seems like it says it is hit or miss if you will here any difference or not

I've never tried a 6.1 or 7.1 setup because my room won't allow for it, but I have bi-amped my mains. IMO it made an improvement. Not huge, but noticeable. YMMV.

I run a 6.1 channel setup in my home theater room, and adding a rear surround channel makes a big difference compared to 5.1 . I highly recommend it if you don't go for 7.1.
