I have the Criterion DVD, so I'll hang onto that for the extras.
I just watched the Paramount reissue and I also noticed the line. It showed up in scenes with quick camera movement.

I’ll wait until Paramount decides to release this as a 4K.

Between the Criterion and the Imprint, is anyone able to comment on whether one has better encoding than the other?

I don't own the Imprint disc, but this might be helpful:

Thanks, I did see the caps and didn't really see a difference until zooming in. Problem is I can't tell if one is objectively "better" than the other, given that I'm often not able to recognize when something is grain managed or filtered vs. has better compression.

Any interpretation of the caps?

sorry, wish I could help more, but they look pretty similar to me. Clearly the same video master, and I don't see any big differences in compression or DNR or anything.

Based on the caps the encoding is better on the Criterion. I would pick that one up if you can get it for a non-ridiculous price. The film does seem ripe for a 4k remaster (and it badly needs one) but who knows.

I know Variety includes it as part of their "recently restored" paragraph, but I wonder if it's just the existing master that was used for Criterion's release, or really something new?

Days of Heaven "Restored by Criterion/Paramount". And there it is. Expect a UHD announcement from Criterion in the near future.

I really hope this means Criterion UHDs of Nashville and Harold & Maude are in the pipeline as well.

Finally. The photography in Days of Heaven is so freakin' gorgeous that it has the potential to be the most beautiful UHD ever released.

Wonder who would give us One from the Heart? That would be awesome in 4K!
