Default Scott Pilgrim anime (Netflix)

‘Scott Pilgrim’ Anime Series in the Works from UCP, Netflix

Creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski will write and executive produce the series.

Source - The Hollywood Reporter:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...ix-1235071580/

"Scott Pilgrim, the hit graphic novel series that was adapted into an Edgar Wright vehicle, is once again headed the screen, this time as an anime series.

Netflix and UCP, the division of Universal Studio Group behind The Umbrella Academy and Chucky, are developing the brand new adaptation, which does not yet have a series order.

Bryan Lee O’Malley, Pilgrim’s artist-creator, is writing and executive producing with BenDavid Grabinski, the showrunner behind the revival of Are You Afraid of the Dark? at Nickelodeon. The two will showrun the series should it move forward, with anime house Science SARU on tap to provide the animation work. The company’s Eunyoung Choi sill serve as producer and Abel Gongora as director on the series.

The bandmembers from the 2010 movie are also on hand for the anime. Wright and producing partner Nira Park will receive exec producer credits along with Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, and Adam Seigel of Marc Platt Productions, and Michael Bacall."

Guess we're getting the faithful adaptation now. Was always bummed the movie was made before the books were finished.

You just described most anime vs the source material.

Given that I highly enjoyed the movie, I hope this turns out to be pretty good.

I've been hoping something like this would happen.
I just hope this will be a direct adaptation of the books. (or "graphic novels", whatever)

Given the Twitter shitstorm over the "inappropriate" relationship between a 15 year old and a 25 year old in Licorice Pizza, seems like an odd time to drop this news.

Scott Pilgrim has never garnered any major controversy for the age differences. Also the perception of a 17 and 22 year old hooking up is vastly different than a 15 and 25 year old. Going to file this under Not an Issue.

Too be fair, Scott's "relationship", if you can even call it that, with knives is framed as a bad thing.
He's mostly just using her as someone to talk to because it's "easy", not that that makes it okay, and he needs to grow up and stop doing stuff like that.

At least in the books anyway. At one point the live-action movie was going to end with Scott & Knives being together.
Good thing they didn't go through with that. Scott X Ramona Forever! Lol!

I know we lost this war when people started calling Avatar: The Last Airbender an anime, but this isn't an anime! It's a show made by an American company based on a Canadian comic! It's just a cartoon!

At least this's going to be animated by a Japanese studio. (unlike A:TLA)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scienc...#Feature_films

Also, the country of origin for the source-material doesn't determine weather or not something is an anime.

Many of Hayao Miyazaki's work has been based on Western books and folklore.
Even Future Boy Conan, which was just recently released on Blu-ray, is based on an American science-fiction novel called, The Incredible Tide.

This has been a big debate among anime fans for the last couple of years.

Animated series is the better term than cartoon in any event.

Love Scott Pilgrim. Both movie and books. Would love a faithful adaptation. Technically being animated by a Japanese studio Netflix can call this anime but they would have no matter who animated it cause their kinda ignorant.

Anyone calling Avatar anime though is 100% wrong and a dum dum.

I loved the movie even though I never read the book. The game was superb, too.

Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead really helped the movie feel unique, original and epic in its own right. Man, and how could I forget Brandon Routh! I loved his role, too.

The cast of the film was pretty much spectacular and I can't really complain about it. 9/10

I thought of something yesterday. Does anyone think they'll try to "update" the story to take place in modern day? (minus the whole pandemic thing)

I'm really hoping this will be a straight adaptation, and that includes taking place in the early 2000s.

I remember a scene in one of the books, can't remember which one, where there was a Zellers receipt in someone's drawer.
I got a big kick out of that when I first read the books a few years ago, because that store chain doesn't even exist anymore.

I think they'd have to keep the time period the same, considering several key scenes are set in places that don't exist anymore (the Rockit fight in Vol. 1 and the Honest Ed's race in Vol. 4 immediately jump to mind).

I have mixed feelings about that.

Most of the cast in the live-action movie was pretty good, except Michael Cera.
I'd personally rather have someone else voice Scott, but oh well, maybe his portrayal will be more like he was in the books.

Either way, I would like to have more of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona.

I hear you on Cera, but overall it's still an amazing cast
