I sort of know Vince Vaughn, and a few weeks ago I asked him what he though about this film now. He said as an actor just starting out he was just happy to be working with Gus Van Sant on pretty much anything-- he didn't really tell me what he actually thought about the film, though haha.

Here’s what Psycho remake in 2020 would be like:

1. Everyone in Phoenix would be wearing face mask including Marion, Sam, Mr. Lowry and Mr. Cassidy.
2. The $40,000 would be $4 million.
3. Bates Motel’s business slow due to social distancing and shutdown.
4. Norman would be filming Marion with his smartphone through the peephole in his office.
5. Arbogast instead of calling Lila via payphone would text her.
6. Marion would be driving a Tesla.
7. Sam would be emailing Marion instead of writing her a letter.

Did I miss anything else?

Norman would be acquitted of all crimes due to being mis-gendered during cross-examination.

I watched this yesterday (thank you, Target B2G1 sale!) and I thought it was decent! I seem to recall watching it at least once around the time it came out, but I didn't really have any memories of it, so this felt like my first time watching. Obviously the comparisons to the original are always going to lead to this one feeling inferior, but it was kind of fun to watch the story updated for modern times. And while I know Vince Vaughn wouldn't have been most peoples' choice to play Norman (especially after seeing all the comedic roles he's played since this film), but again, I didn't hate him.

With remakes/sequels/updates like this, I try to just watch them totally on their own, without comparing to what came before. With that in mind, I still got some enjoyment out of this.

I doubt anyone in 2020 would be dropping that kind of money in cash. It'd be a digital transfer and Marion would still be stuck in that job and lunchtime snogs with her lover.

You'd be surprised how many transactions are still done via straight cash and check physical transactions, even in business and retail office spaces with property managers.

She probably wouldn’t stop there, because she pulled over and googled a nicer hotel.

Or Bates Motel would be "Bates' Pond-side Motor Lodge" with mixed reviews on Yelp, but his farm-fresh menu won Marion over. Plus she needed to charge her car anyway.

I re-watched this last night for the first time in years. Unnecessary though it is - and it takes a while to adjust to late 90s characters reciting dialogue from a script written almost four decades prior - it ain't a bad film in its own right. Plus it's populated by hot people, all of whom are dressed amazingly.

Yes, because your smug strawman response needed to be called out.
