Thinking about getting some extra storage before GT7 comes out. Just starting looking online and the WD SN850 1TB is $229 on Amazon.ca. Anyone recommend this model and is the price decent for 1TB?

Glad I bought my 2tb wd when I did. Hope prices don't become crazy.

I almost got a 4TB SSD for my laptop a few weeks ago but held off and now the price is $150 higher yikes. Well at least I already got my 4 TB SSD for the PS5.

Got the 1tb Firecuda. I’m pretty happy with it. Found it surprisingly at Walmart for $217. Sony really nailed the customizing aspect of the ps5 as a whole.

For those that have upgraded, is a heat sink absolutely neccesary? Has anyone added an SSD without one and what has been the experience os far?

Can’t speak from personal experience but I can’t say I’ve read any negative reports about not using a heatsink.

I know there were loads of speed tests and some games did load faster on the SSD with a heatsink vs the same one without. But it was negligible.

You can get some pretty cheap heatsinks for the PS5 though so it might be worth getting one anyway as a just in case thing.

Sony says it’s best to have a heat sink. I haven’t had any issues with mine at all.

I use a heatsink. Wether it’s necessary depends on how long you want your SSD to last?

In the beta there were a few YouTubers who didn’t use a heatsink & said they had no issue.

After doing my own research, Gen 4 SSDs without a heatsink can exceed 90c. All Gen 4’s recommendations say to not exceed 75c

A heatsink will lower temps to an average of 60c under heavy reads/writes. Basically when you move a file to the M.2 either by copy or download, they’ll achieve the highest temperatures. Reading games is typically below 60c with a heatsink & 75+c without one.

Just installed a 1TB SN850 with heatsink. Was reduced to £134 and I was getting fed up of deleting games that I wasn’t ready to put away just to install the next game. Really would have preferred 2TB but those prices are taking their sweet sweet time to come down.

Nice to see the 2TB price has officially dropped. Does the LED serve a purpose if it is hidden by the PS5 console cover? Not that I would replace the one I installed for a little blue light...

I think prices for the 1Tb have fallen down well enough and i recently picked one up, heatsink i purchased separately for costs but it's ridiculous how high the 2TB versions still are. It's fortunate then that the additional upgrade adds to the PS5 storage but still not the greatest situation.

I want to get the 4tb WD Black when it drops in price or at least the 2tb, no way would the 1tb be enough space as I don't plan on getting anymore drives this generation.

A month from today I will be stateside and can get my hands on my WD Black 2TB drive that I bought in October. for $208 + tax I won't be able to put it in the PS5 until I get back to Papua New Guinea the end of February. But I'm looking forward to having more storage. Even with moving my PS4 downloads to an external drive, my internal storage is close to full.

Honestly, after upgrading to a 1TB, things are much improved for my storage situation but i do think the memory greed reared it's head when i got a £50 Amazon gift card and was thinking how it would make a 2TB NVMe about £110ish to buy when they went on offer.

That said, i don't currently need it and the storage is managed well. I just dislike though how it reserves more and more storage on the drive for games, even say if you hook up an external HDD with all PS4 games.

I think for me, the variety of NVMe drives that are compatible right now is great and with the faster versions due soon, these will end up even cheaper.

Yeah the competition and spec requirements are the advantage that the PS5 has over the XSX/S when it comes to expanded storage. Easy to find a PS5-compatible 2TB NVME at about the same price as the 1TB Seagate Xbox drive.

I wonder if there is a length for the exclusivity on the Seagate-Xbox licensing that will one day result in more competition and lower prices.

I'm using this one....

2TB GAMMIX S70 Blade
https://a.co/d/1mQmzfA

Comes with a heat spreader instead of a heat sink ..... Seems to work perfectly. It was $30 less when I bought it last week. ($179)
