These are not unusual. I thought most people knew about these. Every single week, there are these copycat movies released that coincide with a movie that is being released in theaters that week. And of course they suck. 6 years ago, I worked at Blockbuster, and for some reason, there were always people who would rent these movies and think that they were the real version.

Sure, there's a sucker born every minute. Anybody here ever rent one just for ships & giggles? I'm curious if they're camptastic or just boring. To me campy acting and poor effects could be a fun time - but if it's boring, then it's pointless.

What, you mean
![]() Then again, you might prefer something a little more original, like ![]() Too subtle?--Okay, how about: ![]() ![]() (Interesting in that we just haven't seen a Goodtimes knockbuster of a Disney title in the last ten years since "Hercules", but Pixar movies now seem to be the butler's-silver of choice for Brazilian CGI companies... Not that we mean to imply anything, mind--They are desperate enough to crib Dreamworks movies as well.) ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 06-11-2009 at 12:34 AM. |

It's to make money off it. It's easy to get low-rent actors for these because they're just trying to work their way up. You've just got to keep your costs low - cheap artwork, cheap writers (cribbing stories from other movies), cheap actors, and cheap production. Just like big-time Hollywood movies, some of these lose money, but a lot of these surprisingly make money - all it takes is several thousand rentals, purchases, and some syndication on the SciFi Channel to put some of these movies into the black. And if producers profit, they don't care what they're financing. That's why you see so many lame trends (Saw-style horror movies, Sci-Fi beast movies like Boa and Python around when Anaconda and Lake Placid were out, etc.)
